Just as Panthers fans should take a realistic approach to judging the team this season, the Horizon league as a whole needs to take a realistic approach to the league. UWM was suppose to be a dominate team last year, but it wasn't. Last year if Butler wins the last game or Chris Hill misses the shot at Detroit, Butler wins the HL. UWM won the HL league last year but we did not dominate. I don't see a dominate team this year. So that leaves the door open.
So a question; is the current crop of player that less talented that the lack of experience makes us doomed to the bottom of the league, or is this team talented enough that they only need to gain the experience in the early part of the schedule to be able to compete in the second half of the season.
As fans in St Louis noted during the World Series, the experts are idiots. The eventual World Series champs were written off before the playoffs even began. I hope we see UWM doing the same, written off before the season begins, but winning in the end. Go Panthers!

these are great points, after all last season, third place was up for grabs that last weekend of league play, so competing for one of the top spots could be a possibility for the Panthers this year. I don't think we should burden our young team with an expectation of finishing in the top three, but you never know what could end up happening. It should be fun to see how it plays out.

Wow, let's not berate people for taking a swing. Sure, we need to focus on UWM, but get a grip, you're not the emperor of the discussion board.

Black Panther, if that was about my last post (immediately before your post quoted here), I must need to polish up my writing skills, I was trying to agree with the opinions offered by the last several posters, not berate anyone my thought is just that I'm going to hope for the best but not to put too much pressure on this young team with expectations or labels. remember how Panther30 continually urged restraint last year on annointing Avo? that's kind of the mind set I'm trying to approach this team and this season with, just to let them develop naturally and be what they are and enjoy the ride.

UWM won the HL league last year but we did not dominate. I don't know how we didn't dominate last year. Aside from Butler, no one was close. UIC only beat us (in overtime) because Tigert was out. We won in Detroit, a very hard place to win. Had it won at Butler, and because of a McCoy error or a terrible no foul call on Tucker lost in the last second. Then dominated Loyola and Butler in the Tourney. We could have won the tourny anywhere. Then there was Oklahoma.

Aside from Butler, no one was close. i think that's what he meant, you don't dominate the conference by having a 1 game lead.

We can only control our own record. What Butler does against everyone else has nothing to do with how much we dominate.
You might say Butler dominated as well. but we were 16-4 Conf. Thats 80%. That would be Dominating in any league.

We were 12-4 last season as we only play 16 conference games. If you include the HL tournament games I suppose you could consider us 14-4 in conference play.

Thats what I meant 14-4. 78% Dominating.
