Here's the difference between last year and this year: Last year, we lost a third-round road game to a team that played in the national title game. This year, we lost a second-round road game to a team that played in the national title game. IMO, Florida appears to be stronger than UCLA going into tonight's game. The rest of this is very tiresome. Have you spoken with our coaches and support staff about Ricky's prospects for the coming year? If you had, I suspect that your tone would be much more subdued. To the Panther fans, Ricky will start at the point from the get-go and have a major role in the coming season. Along with Paige and a few players we have yet to meet, he will be the primary scorer.

I am not sure that he will start next year. Halo, how the hell do u know if he will/won't start next year? you didn't even know he was on our team until either this thread or another but yet you suddenly know our starting lineup? we don't even know our starting lineup as of now and there are some posters on this board who have very strong connections. have u talked to any coaches to get their perspective on his abilities or did u just check out our team's website and draw your own conclusions?

Then how would you react if I said "Tillema is a taller JJ Redick".......its similar....think about it It really comes down to how you word it Halo and I would hope you realize that. I don't really want to go into an English lesson here, but I guess I have to. Come children gather round ;D: The word "is" is the present third singular of the verb "be". Websters exact definition of "be" is "to equal in meaning". By saying "Tillema is a taller JJ Redick" you are implying that Ryan Tillema is equal to JJ Redick. Now lets looks at Nighthawk's statement, "One guard, Ricky Franklin, reminds some who ha(ve) seen him of a bigger Dominic James". The definition of remind is, "to put in mind of something : cause to remember". Thus by saying Franklin reminds some of Dominic James Nighthawk is stating that their styles of play have similarities (the way Franklin plays causes you to remember the way Dominic James plays). Nighthawk correctly used the English language to properly state that both Ricky Franklin and Dominic James have great ball handling skills, and the athletic ability to dunk on larger competition. Saying someone reminds you of someone else doesn't imply that one is equal to the other. You are really grasping at nothing if you find fault referencing another players skill set. If you really want to know how I would react to someone telling me that Tillema reminds them of a JJ Redick type player then here you go. I would react by saying I think Tillema actually does remind me of a young JJ Redick type player. By saying he is a similar type of player it doesn't mean that he is better. It simply means that he has similar strengths, and/or weaknesses. Tillema like a young JJ has a great shooting stroke, but really lacks the ability to create his own shot. When presented with strong defensive competition Tillema became a non-factor, and will need to improve his game if he ever wants to be considered with the greats of UWGB like Bennett, Berlowski, and Nordgaard. I'm not trying to be arrogant here Halo as I grew up in little old Ashwaubenon so I've been to plenty of UWGB games in my life (and happen to date a highly respect member of the Phoenix Dunkers Booster Club), but it seems like your agenda here is to only spin things negatively. I love interacting with fans from all over the conference but try to realize you act not only as a representative for yourself, but also for your school. Art Vandelay

Is Ricky really built like a Fullback, as someone said? I know very little about the returning and incoming players, but I didn't know he was that big (muscular)...

According to those who work with each player's diet and training and dispense aspirin when needed, Ricky is 6-foot-2, about 210 pounds. He will be the most physical point guard the program has known in its Division 1 history.

There's no reason to believe (at this point) that Ricky Franklin WILL achieve POY status, but there are reasons to believe that he COULD do so. There are also reasons to believe that Avo and Hanson will continue to develop and that Paige will be good as well.
Hence the optimism among a group of fans who fully realize that short of getting a blue chip recruit, the Panthers WILL have some drop off in talent this year, it's only a question of how much.
That being said, however, a good coach can make up for some of that with smart game plans that ultilize his player's strengths and minimize their weak points. By installing an offense that played to our strengths (the game in the paint) and minimized our weak spot (3 point shooting) Jeter showed that he is such a coach.

All valid points, but the thing that really impressed me about RJ was his ability to get everyone on the same page - and keep them there when things didn't always go the way they wanted them to. Finding a coach who "knows the game" and can disect X's and O's is not all that difficult, finding a coach who can disect X's and O's, develop/teach players, convince players to buy into his way of thinking, get players to execute his own game plan, and keep them together/unified, is a very hard thing to do........So far, RJ appears to be the real deal (I wasn't so sure when the season started, but he has made a believer out of me).

The coaching staff doesn't even know what the starting lineup will be next season.
Halo, start a respectable UWGB fan board and leave us alone, cause you're boring the hell out of me.

I'll say this much on the topic, the coaching staff has a very good idea already of who will and won't start for the coming season. This is essentially how it recruits. It identifies the holes that need to be filled and evaluates what players might best be able to take up the slack. At the Horizon League level, you don't work off recruiting lists.

Reading this topic has been very interesting, thanks for all the information. Also special thanks to Nighthawk for telling me where I can watch the conference games! Also the highschool in my town had a player who was thinking about UWM but never met with the coach ( he wound up choosing to next year play at BYU) I'm not sure why, but it seems like many fans inCalifornia enjoyed thier sweet 16 run last year, ad the Oklahoma "upset" this year. I read a projection for the Panthers to go 19-9 with a first round exit in the tourney. How accurate do you think this is? More wins? Less?

I also plan to go to 1-3 games this year, where is the best place to buy tickets right near the court?

If you hit http:\\www.ticketmaster.com, you can look up best available for most games once the schedule is released. I recommend that you not wait too long before grabbing your tickets. something tells me that there may be much more interest in the Panthers next year than ever before. You can also contact the UWM ticket office directly at 414-229-5886. They will help you with whatever you need. As part of the "retired student section" in Section 206, we look forward to seeing you at the Cell. Make sure to let me know when you'll be in, so I can get you your first Panther beer. Once again, welcome to Panther Nation. All are welcome here, so bring a friend!
