I agree that it's something to contend with if you're the top dog. However, what do expectations have to do with the reality of the situation? Because the reality is that the larger the expectations, the larger the bulls-eye. True, although they pretty much were, even with the four losses. Butler was the only team within four games in the conference standings and Butler greatly exceeded expectations this year. Yes, I don't think that most people expected UWM to be undefeated in conference play. But I do think that an at-large was a realistic goal for them with this team. Right, my only point there was that Gonzaga must have the largest bulls-eye of any mid-major by far and they haven't let it get in the way of crusing through their conference, at least so far. Todd

Jeter is doing a good job...but for now, I won't call it anything better. One of my high school hockey coaches was a first year coach and went to state, after that, he had 8 loosing seasons in a row before he was fired. These were seasons of 4-16 records too. So, my point is, Pearl is the greatest coach ever, and his coaching is still effecting the players a bit.
I can't agree with Jeter on his "we need to work on defense, but our offense is ok for now" statement. I realize we didn't have Tigert for a few games, but with 30% shooting...that's unimpressive.
I have high hopes for Jeter, and so far he's doing a good job. Keep it up and let's see the panthers in the DANCE!!

If BP is the greatest coach ever, Jeter is better than a good coach.
Zaga isn't a mid-major. There is no bones about it, when you get the recruits they do, they're no longer a mid-major.

Let's give props to UWMfreak, the godfather of this board. Total membership sits at 999. When I joined it was around 200. Some on this board were the first few dozens.
1,000 and counting!

You bring up a good point regarding Gonzaga, but they are the only team in the country undefeated in their conference. Countless other teams have dropped one or 2...even Duke, the #1 team in the nation. Um...not sure what your looking at but Duke has yet to lose a conference game. But they will this weekend when my heels take them down at Camron. (I hope) Also, George Washington, Memphis and Bucknell have yet to drop a conference game. Maybe more but those come to mind.

Congrats to Lick and the amazing job he did in helping Butler win, with a team that most thought would be horrible!

There is nothing I would like more than to face Butler on tuesday, and prove to them why we are the conference champions

You guys were the conference champions.. there is no doubting that.
There's no doubting that you'll have a very strong home court advantage as well... but remember what happened early in the season, and that's before Butler was playing well...
I think it should be a good game, if we both make it to the championship. Definitely "Must see TV"!

Right, my only point there was that Gonzaga must have the largest bulls-eye of any mid-major by far and they haven't let it get in the way of crusing through their conference, at least so far. Todd Gonzaga should not be considered a mid-major by any standpoint, they have had years upon years of success. they are no longer that one year wonder team that they might have been thought to be back when their amazing run in the tourney started. i am getting sick of this GONZAGA IS NOT A MID-MAJOR. they may play in a conference that has mid-majors but anytime you are consistantly ranked within the top 5 or 6 teams in the country you can call yourself a major. they started the year as a pre-season top five (at least top 10, im not for certain at the moment) team and this is after losing who some thought was a better player than morrison, in turiaf (who hopefully will be completely healthly again, i wish him the best of luck with his heart problem) so stop calling them a mid-major since they are no longer that. sorry for the rant but they should not be considered a mid-major.

Don't apologize. You were right on all counts, except I believe they were #8 in the opening polls.

Gonzaga should not be considered a mid-major by any standpoint, they have had years upon years of success. The conference they play in is ANY standpoint. It may not be the one that you choose to pay attention to but still it's a part of who they are. They still get rated in the mid-major top 25. If you want to call them a major, that's fine with me but calling them a mid-major is also perfectly accurate. Todd
