Pressing does no good to a team like Wisconsin. They pass too well. The only thing I can think of why we wouldn't be pressing more is to keep Hill in the game. He has struggled mightily to stay in the game due to foul trouble so far this year. He also had a tendency to push things a bit out of control at times last year. Additionally, Ed could just flat out hit shots in transition. We don't have that option to the extent we had it last year. I'd like to see it implemented a bit more as it sure adds a lot of excitement to the game, but I really think this season is starting to point to the fact that even though we have many of the same players, this squad isn't really meant to press to the extent we did last year. That, kids, is a very bad runon sentence. Do as the graduate says, not as he does. I'm from engineering school. T

first off, every opponent is different. different strengths, different weaknesses. if you can find any weakness exploit it.
In the case of the Hawaii game, the press would have killed us due to the fact that our shooting is questionable, its there some nights (SDSU) and gone others. until that aspect is solidified its best to use the full press only when its needed.
UW has great ball control and passing not to mention size. we have problems using the full press against these types of teams. it should be used occasonally to give ourselves a boost here and there IMO.
as was stated previously a W is a W, i dont care how we get'em just so long as they keep rolling in.

Am I being dense here? Can someone please remind me where the press work this year EXCEPT against teams where they were absolutely no match athletically?
Lets see....
Memphis: Hell NO. We had no chance to press, and anyone who thinks we could have is living in a dream world.
Upper Iowa: Does not count. We could have played just about any defense (or offense for that matter) and won that game handily.
Tenn. Tech: I went back and watched the tape of this game. We simply got lost in half court when they broke the press. The coaches wisely pulled back and we did not press much at all.
SDSU: See Upper Iowa
St. Louis: Are you kidding me? When we pressed, they broke it. Do you remember how many points they had in transition in the first 5 minutes? Keep in mind, this is NOT a team known for its ability to play up-tempo basketball.
Hawaii: We barely pressed, and for good reason. St. Louis killed our press - how could you expect Hawaii, a much more athletic team, to not do the same.
Bottom Line: We are winning. Isn't that the satisfaction you are looking for?

I'm not looking for style points. I'm looking at the best way to win basketball games. The press gives another element to our offense, and given how poorly we've shot the basketball, we could use it. The fact that we shot 39% and won against a quality opponent like Hawaii is an aberration. Hawaii played a miserable game and they'll be the first to admit it. Do you not agree that the press is a tool that's been hugely successful for the team? And you never answered why we didn't use it. Because nobody can except Jeter and nobody has asked him the question. I too would like to disagree! we forced 20 TURNOVERS without one full court press that's more impressive to me. Style points? Style points is running a full court press to generate offense and relying on break away points. The press wont work for every team you HAVE to realize this!! I see a lot of day after the fact criticism of coaching and you have to believe Jeter wasn't hired to leave things in the locker room he did it im sure after seeing things in the film room. Jeter must have seen something about Hawaii that would take advantage of a press. Plus how can you say Hawaii had a bad game they held us to 39% shooting from the floor they our rebounded us and had a better free throw percentage. I don't know what your complaining about?! If anything was lacking in the game it was attendance (4325)

Both of UWM's Saturday night games have come head to head agaisnt the Bucks, and the first one was in the middle of a bona fide snowstorm, while the second one had intermittent snow. I haven't checked the Bucks schedule but I sure hope they are out of town this Saturday and that the roads are clear. Green Bay should bring a much bigger visiting crowd unless there are weather issues.
By the way, Marquette hasn't actually put 10,000 into the BC yet this year -- and it has the advantages of no conflicts with the Bucks and a much bigger season ticket base. People just don't get revved up about college basketball in Milwaukee until the New Year. Too many things going on during the Holiday season.

I will take any early season W at this point...I dont think we are playing great ball and alot has to do with the transition to the new coach...although I find the games not as ammusing with the large point totals at times..we were averaging 70 plus points coming into the Hawai'i game...Im not completely sold on Jeter yet, however, a W over Wisconsin and Id prolly kiss his feet

I hope no one is going to judge Rob by whether he beats UW in Madison. Since Bo Ryan arrived only Skip Prosser, John Chaney and Bruce Weber have done it -- and they all had great teams. As does Bo again this year.
Let's just hope it's an exciting game, and a performance that we can build on. And remember, getting smoked there last year really didn't stop UWM, did it?

One big "W" does not a great coach make.......... and one "L" does not mean he isn't getting the job done.
The job/productivity of a coach must be looked at via the wide angle lens.......what does he do over time.
This isn't an instant gratification type of thing.

People should be excited/revved about UW-Milwaukee Basketball we went to the sweet 16 last year and we have the same attendance as we did at the beginning of last year and I was hoping that would change because the people come after January are not true blue fans and that’s the truth regardless of what else is going on in Milwaukee on any particular game night I thought that in reference to the snow storm game we had a good crowd but I was hoping that because we were playing Hawaii who knocked off Michigan State we would see a lot more true fans attend and we would have extended this universities following of sports. I am not satisfied but I think if we finish strong like last year it could break this mediocre first half following!

I have no complaints what so ever about attendance so far... I feel it's way above what it used to be. I recall a game where I was one of SIX yes SIX students in the student section. Man do I miss Gallos de Palea ;D
