Unbelievable. I had a feeling that UWM could do it going into this game, but actually seeing it happen is completely different. Wow.
I missed a little of the start of the game, and when I came back, they were down 11-0. Then, Milwaukee just came alive and amazed everyone. It sounded like it was a pro-UWM crowd, though. (Or was that all just from the UWM section?)
Illinois will be a very tough matchup for UWM. I probably wouldn't have even given UWM a chance in this game a week or two ago. However, after seeing how this tournament has progressed so far, I wouldn't count UWM out of it. They could cause a lot of problems for Illinois.

AWESOME WIN!!!!! this = Packers trip to Super Bowl in my book of great sports moments. One more win and it may take over the #1 spot. Woo Wooooo!!
I just got done scouting the Illini D-Board, I have never read so much hatefull, grudge holding bunch of BS.. Typical FIB stuff. I can't wait until I get 'approved' and start trash talking about the game, not some crap that happened 15 years ago.
GO PANTHERS!

As an Illinois fan, let me explain the hatred to you; after all, if that large of a group of people all hate a guy that much, there's probably a good reason for it. There's a much bigger likelihood that one person did some very scummy things than there is that a massive group of people, every last one, are all just delusional haters.
First of all, it's nothing you guys should be concerned with. I agree. It has nothing to do with your program; you guys simply hired a guy who's turned out to be a great coach, no matter what he did 15 years ago.
But you have to understand what happened, and what it's meant to our program.
In short, Pearl illegally audiotaped, and coerced a lie out of a confused kid; Deon Thomas simply wanted Pearl of his back. It led to an investigation in which nothing was substantiated from the original charges, yet we were punished anyway.
Ever since, he's tried to paint himself as a martyr, which throws salt in the wound.
Now, understand where we were at the time. We were coming off a Final Four season. We were looking pretty solid to not only get Deon, but Juwan Howard, LaPhonso Ellis and Cuonzo Martin as well.
In short, the powerhouse we're starting to become now is what should've happened 15 years ago. His dirty deeds set us back a long way.
I don't know what kind of person he is now, though his continued insistence on painting himself as some sort of ethical martyr still makes me sick. All I know about him now is that he's a great coach, and that's all you guys should care about. Don't take offense to why we hate him, because it has nothing to do with what he's done for your program.
We're bitter, and we should probably get over it. You're right.
But we have good reason to be bitter toward him.

unfortantely that is all that we will hear about on this board from anyone that is from the state of Ill. most likely, the whole Bruce vs. Jimmy, iowa vs Ill. thing.
To tell you the truth i am about as sick of this whole topic as one could possibly be, I will never and plan on never invovling this topic anytime a UIC game is mentioned from now on and it is in a way sad that the only thing that people are going to be able to try and use to bring us down during this time of what is by far the greatest moment in UWM history, by drudging up the past during a time which most of the fans now have no idea what went on exactally. Yes we have all read the stories i am sure but i am willing to bet that there are not amny out there that know all the details to the full extent (yes i know there are people on the board and that are fans of UWM that do know the details and can recall most of what it was that happened, and i am sure that a bunch of U of I fans are going to bring it up too). IT WAS FIFTEEN YEARS AGO GET OVER IT!!! the two men that were involved have so maybe then it would seem liek a good idea for eveyone else to get to that same level as well.
sorry im done with the rant............
GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!! SWEET SIXTEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well put dutch
Call me crazy, but after UWM-BC and seeing IL play Fair Dick Thursday, I think we have a legitimate shot at this one. Not sure that the press will bother the one man fast break though.
They harbor a lot of anger toward Bill Self also. No wonder they have a totally racist mascot with all the hate down there.
Bruce...clap, clap..... clap...Pearl!!!!

You really wanna start that one? Is this two issues you wanna get completely and utterly schooled on? (Note: Illinois doesn't have a mascot. It's hard to have a racism mascot when you don't have one, period.)
I'm not really worried about it, because the only schooling that matters will happen on the court, son.
By the way, you stole the term "FIB" from Wisconsin fans. What a wannabe tool you are. (Not sure why that's something you'd wanna be, though; we beat their ass three times this year, too.) A hypocrite, too; should you really be ridiculing what you deem as hatred out one side of the mouth, and using a contemptful term toward those people out the other?
Sure kills your credibility on that one, doesn't it?
As far as Illinois fans bringing up Pearl. I didn't bring it up first. One of your guys brought it up first. If you don't want Illinois fans talking about it, don't bring it up first. You wanna avoid it? Leave it alone. Don't have your guys sniffing around Illiniboard, coming back here to talk sh*t, and then complain when someone comes over here to call you on it.
You don't want it, then you guys shouldn't start it.

And don't tell us what to get over, especially when it's to try to sweep your coaches' scummy doings under the rug like they don't matter.
You don't know what we went through as a fanbase with that crap. Where we are now is where we should have- and would have- been 15 years ago if not for his crap. Considering you guys have about four years of basketball hsitory worth talking about, you shouldn't be telling someone else what to get over.

414,
"By the way, you stole the term "FIB" from Wisconsin fans. What a wannabe tool. (Not sure why that's something you'd wanna be, though; we beat their ass three times this year, too.)"
FIB is not a UW thing, it is a whole state of Wisconsin thing. Packer fans use it all the time against Bears fans. Get a clue.
And another thing...check the transcript, you brought up the Pearl-IL cheated and got caught issue.
GO PANTHERS!

Sigh. I'm already tired of hearing the OLD stories from 15 years ago! Yes, what Pearl did was wrong, but it doesn't concern the current players from EITHER team. Simply put, Pearl has done a very good job with your team, they are a talented bunch and are to be congratulated. I hope that other Illiniboard members that post here talk about the current players and the upcoming game. Dredging up past issues will make us look like fools. By the way, should any of my fellow Illiniboard members read this and say I'm too young to understand what happened all those years ago? I'm 45 and a lifetime Illinois fan. Panther fans...enjoy your run. It ends next week.

I agree that what Pearl did 15 years ago doesn't matter, but its pretty clear he did the right thing.
The idea that Thomas was a "confused kid" who got manipulated is laughable. Either he was lying or Collins was lying. Bruce told the truth. In any event, Illiniois was apparently cheating in other ways and paid for it.
I understand why a large group of people hate each other so much. A criminal always hates the guy who catches him. Illinois fans didn't want to know the truth and Pearl made them face it.
The just end to this soap opera would be for us to beat them.
