Sunday night after the NCAA field is released is when they hand out NIT bids, usually with phone calls to the coaches ... no hoopla involved.
This will be the first NIT bid in UWM history.

Still something to be proud of. THE SEASON ISN'T OVER!!! Do you know when we would know if we are in the NIT and who we will play? Marquette vs. TCU today...lets hope for a loss. Do you think Marquette would turn down a bid to the NIT if they play us?

There is no way that Marquette excepts a bid to the NIT if they have to play us!!

Do you know when we would know if we are in the NIT and who we will play? As I stated previously, Sunday night is when UWM finds out if they are in and who they play.

There is no way MU turns down a bid to the NIT. That would be a PR nightmare for them. Cords and Cream would have to step it up and accept the bid.

I still say it's highly unlikely UWM is paired up with Marquette in the first round. MU has enough weight to throw around, just like DePaul did last year in not getting matched up with UIC. But after the brackets are released and if UWM and MU are in the same half, there's obviously nothing Cords can do to get out of it then. So I'm thinking if they do meet, it would be in the second or third round.

NIT doesn't have brackets. The committee sees who wins first round games and then makes up second round pairings from there. I'm pretty sure the only brackets are once there are four teams left.

With that said, there's no way UWM will be facing Marquette in its first game.
UWM will be in an opening round game and will have to advance to the first round, while Marquette will be in a first round game to start.
Northwestern is a strong possibility still, and whoever doesn't win the MAC (i.e. Western Michigan or Kent State) could be another opponent.

I agree with you guys, Crean and company would/will do anything they can to avoid an MU vs. UWM game happen in the first round. I think UWM could get a Big 10 team that fell off the bubble in the first round, and possibly MU in the second or third round.
Another ironic point is that if MU and UWM are matched up in round 1, it would be a home game for UWM since MU is "hosting" the first round of the NCAA tournament.

I still think that the brackets are made up as the tournament progresses. The NIT has "empty" brackets that they fill in as they see who is still alive after each round. It's all about making money. Matchups are made after each round to find the most attractive games that will sell tickets. Those links show the bracket once last year's tourney was completed and an empty bracket for dates only. If I'm wrong I'm wrong. I hope I find out though as I would be pretty pissed if UWM isn't invited. They won't be playing Northwestern as the Wildcats must win 2 games in the Big Ten tourney to finish at least .500. All teams in the NIT must be at .500. Northwestern will not make it.
