Bruce should not have gotten either T. The refs badly screwed up a call in which a UIC player went over Chris Hill's back and fouled him. Chris STILL came down with the rebound and was then CALLED for the foul. At This point Bruce went ballistic. Typical HL garbage officiating.

The busses just got back from UIC, and for all of us being there, it was a horrible officiated game. At first the refs. we calling touch fouls, not letting the guys play at all. Then once they started letting us play the calls were absolutly horrible. Turnovers going the wrong way, fouls that didn't exist.
As fas as the Bruce Pearl incident, he didn't deserve the first one, but the second one in my opinion was probably deserved when we went to the water jugs and threw all the water cups off the table.
We should have won the game, but to blow a 10 point lead that quickly was something we shouldn't have done. UIC had the emotional edge down the stretch. All I have to say, is bring them on in the tournament, at the U.S. Cellular! Payback is awesome!

nohops,
You clearly weren't at the game. I was. Yes it was a garbage call (as were most of the calls all night against UWM), but Bruce deserved both Ts. He got pretty much in the refs face and tore off his coat (first T), then after 20 seconds or so, scattered cups of water all over the place just as the ref was watching (second T).
I, along with a few others, thought at the time he was trying to get the second T.
But it's a close loss on the road to a quality opponent. If UWM was going to lose a game in conference this year, this is the one we should want. It's not going to kill them. If anything, this loss keeps them from getting complacent.

Just back from the game. Totally nuts...but that was expected for a game at the Pav. We have never been treated so poorly by a home crowd. The GLOVES come off if we get UIC at home in the tourny.
Banks became the player he is hyped to be in the second half...he made amazing shots.
Not much else to say...
sh*tty refs, but you hear that after every HL game. I think one of the guys we had again tonight is out to get UWM. Same guy who kicked thepaintedone out of the YSU game and the same guy who blew our 20pt advantage vs. Loyola. But that still matters little, we were up by 10 in the second half.
Bring on Wright State...LETS FINISH THIS CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY!
GO MILWAUKEE!

I listened to the radio call as soon as I finished teaching at 7:30 this evening. Bill Johnson had the call and said Bruce deserved the second T, certainly not the first. He also mentioned how the refs said they were going to give bruce his second t which set off the real fireworks.

Well that may be Bill's opinion, but I think most will agree in retrospect (maybe not in the heat of the moment) that Bruce deserved the first one, too. I mean, he literally RIPPED off his coat no more than 2-3 feet in front of the ref.
Bruce had every right to be pissed though. sh*tty call on the Hill foul.

The rediculous thing about that call is that Hill is 5'11" maybe and the guy that climbed his back is 6'8". When you have perfect position in the post, get your back climbed by a guy gigantic compared to you, get the rebound, and then get called for holding this guy down...I just can't believe refs actually called that on Hill, still, 3 hours later. Pearl prolly deserved both Techs, but he had a lot of right to be pissed. I have to kinda laugh now at how he dismantled that water table, but I'll be hurting til Saturday afternoon about how that game played out.

that game tonite was just beyond what words could explain in reguards to the job that the refs did in the first half. just mind-bowling, no reason for the majority of the calls that they attempted at making. but all that said and done UWMfreak is right there is no reason to lose a 10-point lead like we did tonite.
I think that the biggest thing to come out of this game actually could be the health of DP. he looked to hurt his ankle pretty good at the end of the game and would be a big lose if he is out(actaully big would have to be an understatement).
and yes bruce maybe did deserve the techs but there is no reason that it should have came to that in the first place, just terrible calls made for the most part to go against UWM

The Panthers (15-6, 10-1 Horizon) lost for the first time in league play but remain a game ahead of Wright State for the top spot in the Horizon League. The two teams meet Saturday afternoon at the U.S. Cellular Arena. UWM, playing under associate head coach Tony Jones, built a 60-50 lead with 10:41 to play in the game. But the Flames (16-7, 7-4) responded with a flurry, scoring 26 of the next 31 points to claim a 76-65 edge with 2:52 left. The Panthers rallied to within three at 81-78 on a three-point basket by Page and were still within 82-78 after Elliott Poole made 1-of-2 free throws. But Chris Hill was called for traveling driving to the basket on the next possession, clinching the win for the Flames. After picking up two technical fouls in quick succession with 30 seconds left in the first half Thursday night, Pearl was banished to the visitors' locker room for the remainder of the evening. He kept tabs on the 86-82 loss to Illinois-Chicago via a cell phone conversation with his wife, Kim, who was listening to the radio broadcast of the game in Milwaukee. Associate head coach Tony Jones replaced Pearl at the helm in the second half, a half that was as ugly as Pearl's scrape with referee Rick Hartzell at the end of the first half. The Flames, who have won four in a row, reeled off a 26-5 run midway through the half that reversed UWM's 60-50 lead and turned it into a 76-65 deficit. What game where you guys watching ?
UIC Fouls - 26 UWM Fouls - 24
If you had not missed 9 free throws, you win the game.
If your coach could keep his temper in check and we don't get 5 free throws from techs, you win the game.
Plus you got the gimme Intentional Foul call at the start of the game on UIC when the player was clearly going for the ball (and missed both free throws).
Plus the great Dylan Page repeated his NCAA performance against Notre Dame and missed two layups, cost you the game.
Get over it please ! At least we gave you basketballs to practice with.
And next time learn some manners about how to be a good guest in someone else's home (and don't start on about how UIC acted two years ago at Kotschkie)...the actions of your fans last night at a venue we try to keep family friendly was deplorable and a poor reflection on your school and city. I hope the officials at the Horizon league office took note of this. Sanctions are in order for your coach.

U0fIC,
I agree entirely with your observations. UWM is still the team to beat. We had one of our worst games of the season, with every possible thing going against us, yet we still hung around until the end. If the game went differently in a few places, uwm wins. But of course it didnt...and I must admit, Banks was the second coming of Jordan last night. WOW. We got beat in stadium that we never win, no other way to put it.
"the actions of your fans last night at a venue we try to keep family friendly was deplorable and a poor reflection on your school and city."
This however I disagree. The first time I went down there I was treated horridly and this time even worse. You cannot point fingers one way in a big rivalry game like this, both sides were easily to blame. It's no different than a Packer-Bears game...each side is totally blind to the actions of their fans, but views the other as the ones starting every problem. UWM fans and UIC fans were just as bad.
Another great chapter in the UIC/UWM rivalry...we'll see you guys in the HL tourny.
Later, UWMfreak

Hey uoficpa, what exactly is a gimme intentional foul, I am pretty sure that every time an intentional foul is called the player states to the ref he was going for the ball.

You miss free throws you lose games. You give up 18 offensive boards you lose games. I was at the game, yes the officiating was horrible, but it was horrible for both teams. This the wake-up call the Panthers needed, so not to fall asleep before the HL tournament. The bottom line has always been to win the the HL tournament. I'm sorry, with UWM's strength of schedule and living the life of a mid-major, 20 wins doesn't guarantee an at-large in the NCAA tourney, because ACC, Big 10 teams, etc. will get in with 16-17 wins before UWM gets in with 20. Last night was a hiccup, it doesn't hurt UWM in the overall picture. The amazing thing is we played a sloppy, bad ball game and only lost by 4. UWM is definitely the best team in the HL tournament, they just need to finish strong. Still have big games to play. Tomorrow is going to be another battle. Loyola is unpredictable, Youngstown can't be overlooked and I don't care what Butler's record is, winning at the Hinkle is never an easy chore. Manhattan is a must win and we finish the reg. season with a full house at the Klotsche Dome on senior night. Then the real season begins, HL tournament and the NCAAs. As long as we are ready for the HL tournament and finish the season strong, I personally don't care if our record is 21-6, 20-7 or 19-8.
p.s. In response to the UIC fan on the board, your right there probably was some inappropriate things said at the game.......BY BOTH SETS OF FANS!!! This is a rivalry, they play hard, physical and emotional games on the court and the fans get very emotional backing their teams. If everybody sat there quiet with their hands folded, that would be the real problem.
