I just read: "A tangible sign of that progress? UWM will play nine games in U.S. Cellular Arena this year before shifting its entire schedule there next season. Yes, the venerable MECCA of Bucks and Warriors heroes past now welcomes the city's latest hoops phenomenon. " from a milwaukee website.
Is this true that the men's team will play all of their games at US Cellular next season? Why only 9 games as US Cellular this season? What about the $$ improvements being made at the K... Center? Where will the mens teams play in 2005/6, the K... Center or US Cellular? I was hoping to see the Titans take on the Panthers next season back at the K... Center so I could check out the place in person.
If the Panthers host HL Tournament games this season, will they be played at the K.. Center or US Cellular?
Thanks for the info.

UWM's Klotsche Center, named for our first Chancellor, Martin J. Klotsche, Professor of History, is being expanded. Where the parking lot used to be, there is now a very large hole in the ground.
There's lots more to the story and maybe some of our other members will fill in the details.
US Cellular has live-feed televison facilities, which will lead to an increase in news media coverage. Access to restaurants, hotels for visiting teams, and the Downtown atmosphere, all add to the positive side of being in a professional sports venue.
We need to fill it up and attendance at the games is now manditory for all students.

From uwmpanthers.com:
"The project will construct a 134,700-gross-square-feet (GSF) addition to the existing Klotsche Center for Physical Education. In addition, this project will construct a five-level underground parking structure providing approximately 618 spaces (plus 41 surface spaces).
"UWM's athletic department will benefit from new office space, locker rooms, weight rooms and sports medicine facilities in the new facility."
-----
The construction doesn't have anything to with the basketball arena. Heck, they just remodeled that, what, 5-6 years ago? Basically what is it is expanding the "behind-the-scenes" facilities (i.e. athletic department, training, locker rooms, etc.). And also a sorely needed parking structure to go along with it.
As much as I wish they played on campus, the K-Dome is a glorified high school gym and would only want them there if it was in a basketball-only arena setting.

Back in the mid to late 90's I was on the Athletic Board and at that time, before the addition was finally approved there was hopes that the addition might also include a "bowl" type arena for our major sport venues. However, financing became an issue as the state hit tough times in the budget. To build it as a "non-academic" facility would require a major shift in funding that would eliminate millions of dollars in state funding. Therefore, to keep the academic element in place (for expansion of PT program, Kines. dept, etc...) would mean greater dollars, but lost the improvements that would have really made it an "athletic" venue.
Klotsche really isn't a great place to play games, except for the fact that it can be extremely cozy when it's packed.
Even when renovations are done, I would expect that if the campus and the fans from the city get used to heading to US Cell you'll continue to see more games played there, if not most/all.
