Detroit - The old adage that good defense beats good offense hasn't applied when the UW-Milwaukee and Detroit men's basketball teams have played each other this season.
In a dominant performance, the Horizon League's top-scoring team, the Panthers, ran roughshod over the conference's second-stingiest defensive team, the Titans, and UWM shell-shocked the home crowd at Calihan Hall with an 85-68 whipping Saturday.
The victory was the seventh in a row for the Panthers, who are 8-0 in conference play heading into Tuesday's showdown at 6-2 Wright State.

State Men: Roundup
Wis.-Milwaukee rips Detroit Mercy[/b]
By Tom Markowski / The Detroit News
DETROIT — Detroit Mercy found out what it will take to win the Horizon League title Saturday. Quite shockingly for the Titans, it was Wisconsin-Milwaukee that showed them the way.
The Panthers were at their best and handed the Titans their worst home league loss in 10 years, 85-68, before 3,218 at Calihan Hall.
Although this defeat didn’t reach the depths of Dayton’s 93-62 victory over UDM in 1994, the manner in which the Titans lost led Coach Perry Watson to question his team’s courage and toughness.

Not even a career-high 23 points by senior forward Willie Wallace could help the Titans from falling to UW-Milwaukee Saturday, as the Horizon League pace-setters defeated Detroit in Calihan Hall, 85-68.
UWM is now 13-5 overall, and 8-0 at the midway point in its conference schedule. UDM is 9-8 overall, and 3-4 within the league as it dropped its third home game this season, the second by double-figure margins.
Forward Joah Tucker led UWM with 26 points, while Dylan Page added 21 and Ed McCants chipped in 19 more.
