There was serious discussion at the beginning of the season about the band being at all the games. I can assure you that our director was all for us playing at each and every game as he himself is a big basketball fan. What it came down to was a matter of the budget. The Peck School of the Arts simply does not have the money to front what the athletic department can't, or won't pay for. The growth of the pep band depends very much on how well the team does, how many people attend the game, etc. This is my third year playing for the panther band, and each year I have been in it I have seen the amount of people that actually want to be there playing grow and the number of people who are only there because of the money decrease. It will get better, I am sure of that, but it will not happen overnight...not this season anyway. I do believe dedicated fans should make it known to those involved with the band and the funding of the band that they truly want the band at all games...but please make sure you are contacting the right people and approaching them in a just, non standoffish manner. If you doubt the dedicaiton of the band members, just look over at us and see us yelling through our megaphones, beating on sh*t with drum sticks, and playing as loud as f***ing possible. Also, if you have issues about what the band does at games, contact me or pantherband1...we have both been around for a while and can have an impact on what the band does....consider us ambassadors between the fans and the band.

i would have to say that i'm pretty sure that no one here questions teh heart of the members of the band at all, we know you guys and girls are every bit as loud as we the rest of the students, are at the games but i think that the only question is one that has been touched on which is to try and legitalmize(sp?) the UWM basketball program as a whole. Because when you ask the average Wisconsinite they think that there are only 2 teams in Wisconsin and that the second is the only one in Milwaukee, which is very unfortunate and sad but i think that the more we, meaning panther fans in general, make a collective effort to get our opinions heard about what we would like at our home games and what we wouldn't i think it will go a long way to helping our program achieve everything that we all know we are capable of. No one here is trying to delibratly point blame at any one certain person or anything like that, so please if anyone feels that is the case talk to someone else on the board becausee I am very sure that is not anyones intention.

I think my point was mistaken to some extent. In fact, it is a pat on the back to us members that all you want us around so much. We appreciate being appreciated! My main point was that as a whole, we want to be at all the games. It's just a matter of how we can make that happen. Also, I think it would be great if we could coordinate more stuff between the band and the fans as other major programs do. Simple things like getting the student section to sing along to hey baby and such go a long way in showing that all entities of the fanbase are working together. Like I said, if you all have ideas for the band I will take them to the director or coordinate them myself.
- Go Band!

There seems to be a thought that only the UWM pep band gets paid. Not true, MU gets paid while UW works on a really wierd system that's huge because of the need to carry 6 operating bands for the multiple sports. Just be glad we haven't made the national news for poor behavior and been kept home from a conference tourney because of it. (ahem UW last spring).

I enjoy the band a ton (so does my mom!) and would love it if you guys could play every game.
Does anyone listen to Bob and Brian on Lazer in the morning? I'm sick of Eric doing the sports with the MU fight song or UW band in the background. Can anyone send over a copy of the UWM fight song? I'm sure they'd play it espcially since Bruce is on once in a while. Just a thought.

I never even got a copy of the recording we did last year. So it'll have to be someone else.

NoHops - I've got a copy. Corely was kind enough to send it after I inquired about it. My kids had never even heard of the Beer Barrel Polka. Someone let me know where to send it.

SWEET ;D
that is great to hear that we will have you gusy there. It's understandable for the Jan 3rd game being that it will be during break and i'm sure that just as teh student section will most likley suffer during that time the band probably wouldn't be at full force either, so looking forward to you guys making it for the other games.
