Does anybody want to speculate out loud what the problem is here with Stiemsma? I doubt many people are buying the supposed injury excuse, as all the message board fodder on this topic shows. I don't think it has anything to do with him getting in a fight, or trouble with a girl either. That happens quite often at UW and it’s always been public record in the past. As far as poor grades, kids have academic eligibility issues all the time too, and normally that’s opening discussed in the press as well. I'm perplexed about what else could be so personal or embarrassing. Maybe he came out of the closest and the rest of the team didn't take it so well-ha kidding.

I can only speculate. I have no information of merit ... this is the one person I thought of when I heard about this situation and the care UW is giving it:
Julian Swartz.
Again, I'm just speculating. No matter what it is, let's hope for the best for Greg.

These things help remind us that it's just a game.

Julian is a good guy, but he has really struggled - lets hope that Greg isn't in the same boat. If I am not mistaken, Jerod Lovett (MU) suffered from the same thing - but not on quite as severe a level.

Jared Lovett...I grew up in Melrose when he was at Blair-Taylor High which was in our high school...my dad was the coach and what not..I did not think he was that good...but yah he had it and missed his senior season and also tried to make a comeback with Sam Okey through the LaCrosse Bobcats of the CBA..but Isiah Thomas ran that league into bankruptcy so they never got up and going. But it was rather unfortunate that happened. And Julian Swartz..seen him at O'danneys like a year ago..man he put on some weight...hes a chubby guy now....just hope hes doing ok now

Pardon my ignorance - can someone give me the scoop on Julian Schwartz?

Nothing explains Julian Swartz and what he's been fighting better than this from Rick Reilly that appeared in SI back in 2000: sportsillustrated.cnn.com/inside_game/magazine/life_of_reilly/news/2000/11/14/life_of_reilly/Just a brilliant piece of writing. Julian had a brief stint on UWGB's roster then served as a student manager, before transferring back home to Carroll College (ESPN did a good piece on him when he was playing there) ... he eventually gave up basketball I believe. At last check, he's serving as an assistant for his brother, Billy, on the Waukesha South boys basketball team.
