So i was watching tv last night and i saw allen iverson in a rebook ad. As i watched the ad i remerbed a conversation i had with panther lou and nohops. AI has been called a "punk" by many for his boy boy manners and his continous crying off the court. Many sports casters have felt that AI is just another NBA baby with too much money and not enough W's.
I guess his over all appearance has been less than hero like.
The commerical had AI playing pool by himself in a dark room. He was dressed business casual and wore a funny hat that made him look taller. AI spent the commerical talking about how he did not want his kids to be exposed to what he was exposed (ie "harsh ghetto life".) Yet he recognizes that it was the mean streets who made him who he was. but he proclaims that he will do everything to give his kids a a better oppertunity. AI states at one time, "The person i am on the court is the not the same person i am to my kids"
Now this commerical works out perfect for AI. it doesnt denie that fact hes pes perfect. but it also adresses that he is a good father figure no mattter what happens on the court.
Most players who do not set good examples or have good reputations usually do not get to be in rebooks tv spots. A good example of this would be kobe after his colorado incident and his new found "command" of the LA Lakers. In light of this i would like to ask the board what makes an NBA player a hero and what makes an NBA player a punk. YOu can define them as however you would like or set your own examples.
I for one do not see AI as a punk, but just another over paid NBA baby. personally, i have a bigger problem with shaq than i do with most of the league. mostly bc when he moved to the lakers he made it no secret that he was playing for money.
with light of AI's commerical is it safe to say that huge companies are not afraid to use the nba's "bad boys" to promote their product?
If so, is that ok or does it set a bad example for up coming players?
Discuss if you would like.
