Milwaukee finished 8th in the Horizon League this year and Western Illinois finished 9th (8th if you take out IPFW). This year, the Horizon-Summit challenge is planned to begin. Could you imagine if these two teams were paired up? I can think of at least one person who would make sure to have other plans for the night of that game.

So, another sad milestone for our program. For the first time since the start of the 21st century, we know without a doubt that Western Illinois has a vastly better coaching staff than UWM. Well done, Ms Braun!

Within the first year after he was hired at Milwaukee, Rob Jeter commented in a radio interview about certain recruits being good for Milwaukee's "level." At that time we were in the back end of what we now fondly think of as the program's glory days. It was discouraging to hear him imply he did not consider the program to have the mid-major prominence that pundits and so many of us perceived at that time. I remember discussing this concern with fellow fans, including some on this board, at the time he made the comment and afterward. Perhaps now at WIU he will be at a "level" appropriate for him. Sure, Milwaukee is now at the same "level," but it certainly was not at the time Bud Haidet made the big mistake of hiring and retaining him. Perhaps Milwaukee can add WIU to the home schedule in the near future. Attendance is sure to increase by 20 or so for that game (insert comment here about the large percentage increase that would be). Tell us how you really feel.

I'd 100% be at that game with a giant f***ing "WHERE'S AMANDA?" sign.

Unless Tony Jones comes outta nowhere for a late-career surge, there's not really an argument that Jeter was the wrong choice among the options. Mike Dunlap crashing and burning at LMU despite all his experience (including a lot he's added since 05) pretty much cemented that fact. As far as I can tell, Ryan and Pearl are the most successful (long-term, not at the school) coaches to be hired back-to-back at a mid-major...ever? At least in the modern era...none of the VCU guys are there, Butler had Lickliter between Matta and Stevens, and Dan Monson isn't exactly on Ryan/Pearl's level. Ethics aside, I'd argue it's better than anything the Power Conference programs in WI have been able to do back-to-back since something involving McGuire Pretty sure that pair of hires broke a lot of Panther fans' brains. I'd say the program should be better than it was even then given the salary it can offer, but you can say that about just about everyone left in the league. Being worse than the Summit when we have schools who can offer enough to steal the Summit's top coaches is pretty weak.

On the 20th, Mark Byington leaves Georgia Southern to coach James Madison basketball.
New athletic director Jared Benko apparently has made quick work of his first hire at Georgia Southern. The Eagles are set to hire Texas Tech assistant Brian Burg as head coach.

Air Force Falcons are bringing back Joe Scott for a second stint as their basketball coach.
Scott was in charge of the Falcons for four seasons and led them into the 2004 NCAA Tournament before his departure. He went on to become the head coach at Princeton and Denver. He’s been an assistant coach at Georgia for the past two seasons.

Friendly reminder - Byron Rimm is still the interim coach for IUPUI. It's important to not rush the decision.
