A thought occured to me over the weekend:
How ridiculous is it that our games are not being broadcast on over-the-air radio?
If no other station wants to carry our games, at the VERY least they should be carried on WUWM. It's the University's station for crying out loud!
I suppose that would make too much sense, though..

Well, this was brought up about 5 years ago. The cost is way to much to be on over-the-air radio. Yes, that was in the Jeter era, that the ratings were just not their to justify the cost. Many who listen to over- the-air radio, just stream it now. As for the WUWM part, not sure.

It is apparent that this was brought up by you know who originally. There are such things (easy for me to say) but are pennywise, dollar foolish and short sighted. A very bad look all around and an image/perception hit. Diminishes us and adds to our obscurity. Braun may use as another reason to "balance the Athletic Budget" but at what cost? Sure there were not a ton of people listening but again consider an investment in the future. I don't think Jeter's record and overall PR aura in the community was a factor as Braun probably would have pulled the plug even if it was "losing" only a few sheckles. Another example of tone deaf personality when it comes to PR especially in the local sports community. I do not consider this a worthy step in Path to Prominence. If we were doing the job we are supposed to be doing in marketing we could I am sure absorb this cost. Just sucks but looks like train has left the station.. Yeah, I know us old dinosaurs still read the newspaper and listen to radio. Conversely the milennials are sure not turning out even though everything regarding promotions, radio broadcasts, tv etc is obtainable now only by specifically searching the UWM Athletics website don't you know???

No one is going to stumble upon a streamed broadcast, they'd have to seek it out. When they moved from over-the-air to stream-only, they lost the chance to add new listeners and whatever portion of those would become new fans.

Yes, another factor in penny wise dollar foolish approach IMO. Thanks bizzork.

What are we really talking about in terms of people in your (bizzork) example. Very few to justify the cost.
By the way, I miss the radio as well on WISN. I wish we were still on 1130 WISN. Yet, most people stream the radio boardcast. When, I listen to the radio boardcast on WISN 1130, I was on the IHeart Radio app.
Last, not sure what any of this has to do with the game at Green Bay on Saturday. Other than Sprit of Bruce bringing it up. The topic was talked about and done with. I have not found one person who is not on this board that come up to me saying, hey, were are the Panthers on radio. If anything, we need to get more than 3 games on My24.

Remember when these were two much better teams and this was the best rivalry in the Horizon League? Sigh.

Remember when these were two much better teams and this was the best rivalry in the Horizon League? Sigh. Stinks that this game is on ESPN+. Yet, WVU and Kansas fans was saying the same thing. Think about the world we are moving too.

Spirit of Bruce brought up a good idea to put the games on WUWM, which probably is still doable. Whatever "cost" it would be to do that is already sunk in the production of the stream anyway.

WUWM is a news radio station that provides the area’s only unbiased news programming. Putting Panther games on it would have been a no-go when we were a committed, successful D1 program. Doing it now would be utterly absurd.
The area has multiple sports and entertainment radio stations whose audiences are not large to begin with. The fact we can’t generate enough interest or sponsorships to do a deal with one of those stations is a further indictment of our administration.
By the way, the idea that most people listen to radio over the internet is truly nuts. Yes, that’s a developing trend, but it’s stull a minor fraction of listenership.
UWM basketball: No TV. No radio. No fans.
No hope.

If I were a betting man, I would bet the house that the number of people listening to NPR (unbiased... lmao!) at 7pm on a given night is even lower than the actual attendance at Panther Arena. Also, while I'm here, I would like to point out the total fallacy stated by Pounce Needs Pals that radio was pulled during the Jeter era. Games were on 1130 until this season started. We all know when interest in this program truly began cratering...

That's all I have to say regarding my radio thought. I will stick with the topic of the game going forward..

Remember when these were two much better teams and this was the best rivalry in the Horizon League? Sigh. I miss the Pearl era rivalry with UIC. God I hated Martell Bailey, Ced Banks and Armond Williams. Anyways, the Resch Center is the home of my fave Panther win ever that I attended, 2014 title game. As for this game, I can't name one player on GB. That's unfortunately where I am at with the HL these days.
