I can’t remember how late in the summer IUPUI joined, but I’d have to think it’s too late for this to be applicable for 2019-20. I’m also guessing that the HL was would be looking to add a 12th team for scheduling purposes. If that’s the case, I’d guess that one of the D2 teams in the area (Southern Indiana?) would be the favorite to be a potential 12th program. But it’s probably too far out to speculate too much.

I would think this would be for July 1st of 2020.
As for scheduling purpose, you can stay at 11 schools. 20 conference games. Keep the round robin. Two less non-conference games to find.

Called it!!! Next will be SIUE!!! They don't have football, so they could leave the OVC.

Lol OF COURSE it's another Indiana school. If they can commit to playing all D1 games at the Coliseum, they'll at least have a nice venue.

I suppose that it could take effect for the upcoming season, but my guess is that it would be for 2020.

so going to 11 meamns that the basketball tournament format will change. if all 11 teams qualify , we could have the top 5 get byes, while 6 plays 11. 7 plays 10 and 8 plays 9. 6-11 winner plays the 3 seed, 7-10 winner plays the 2 seed, and 8-9 winner plays the 1. 4 and 5 seeds play each other. maybe you reseed after the quarterfinals? , i dunno.

I really don't think they've thought that far ahead.

Yeah, that would make sense. I’m all for expanding the league slate as that would reduce the need for multiple non-D1 games. When it comes to scheduling, I think of those paired off programs for road trips (MKE/GB, Oakland/UDM, YSU/CSU, NKU/WSU, and UIC/IUPUI). The schedules were much more awkward with an odd number of teams.

That would be the likely format, but I would propose keeping the double bye for the 1 seed and giving the 2 and 3 seeds single byes. So in the first round, the matchups would be 4 vs. 11, 5 vs. 10, 6 vs. 9, 7 vs. 8. The second round would be 2 vs. 7/8, 3 vs. 6/9, and 4/11 vs. 5/10. Semifinals would be 2/7/8 vs. 3/6/9 and 1 vs. 4/5/10/11, and the finals would be the last two remaining. I agree that the league probably hasn’t thought this far ahead but it’s kinda fun to speculate.
