In an arguably diminished league profile to boot.

I would say it's inarguable that the league is diminished.

In the six under the current athletics director, we've won 6 (5 women's soccer, 1 men's basketball). I rest my case. With our athletic board and administration, the safe assumption is that this exact same statistic will be cited approvingly to argue that her contract should be extended -- and she should be given a raise! My wife and I randomly ran into another couple last week that we don't really know but recognized from the games. Turned out they also, not surprisingly, dumped their season tickets and stopped going after Braun flushed the program down the toilet in 2016. Honestly, could the collapse of the program since that day really have surprised ANYONE with half a brain in Chapman Hall? It certainly didn't surprise anyone I know who's connected to college basketball. It is increasingly difficult to believe that this wasn't the actual purpose for which she was hired.

In our first 17 years of Division 1 conference competition (Years 4 through 20 under Bud), we won 56 titles in our six major sports (men's basketball, women's basketball, men's soccer, women's soccer, volleyball and baseball). In the six under the current athletics director, we've won 6 (5 women's soccer, 1 men's basketball). I rest my case. Your case has merit only if we assume conference titles are a high priority for the administration. From what we have seen through the years, such assumption is a stretch. A more accurate assumption is that the key measurable criteria for the administration includes fiscal responsibility, ethical compliance, student/athlete academic performance and contribution toward diverse hiring practices. While the last one makes me cringe, these should be and likely are factored in AB's performance evaluation. It is too bad for us fans of men's basketball that this administration does not appear to give winning on the court and program relevance at least equal weight.

I guess that I've stopped another thread. Well, if you value winning, how can you possibly argue my point?!

Don’t think anyone is arguing with you. Many of us have sent emails of protest and have stopped going to games. Not sure what else I can do.

Most don't disagree. Just not worth my fight in life. We have cops getting killed in Milwaukee/Racine. I have family members and friends dealing with cancer. My wife, neighbors and co-workers like and enjoy going to Panther games. So, we make that choice in going. I believe the team will be strong this season and look forward to it. I encourage all folks to get season tickets and support the young men! Life is too short.

The point of my posts is that this program, one that used to belong to us, was once a pleasant diversion from all that ails the world. Now it's much more a reflection of it.

Personally, in addition to the individual human tragedies you mentioned, I get depressed thinking of such large scale issues as the homelessness crisis, mass incarceration and the appalling disparity of minority incarceration in Wisconsin, the looming human misery and financial devastation of climate change, and of course the erosion of the rule of law and of the greatness of the American republic in the daily mendacious ravings and mean actions of a cretinous tinpot authoritarian. Yet somehow I can't figure out how watching our men's program get its ass handed to it repeatedly and predictably because of the administrative devastation intentionally wreaked on it by our AD is going to serve as a pleasant distraction. YMMV.

I LOVE this board! It's a refuge for those of us who demand a better program but are shut out of the decision-making process. Those who haven't been chosen for a search and screen committee but would be willing to assist. At least there exists a forum where we can air our many grievances.

Paul,
I second all of the above. Certainly those of us who fit the above may have had a positive influence and perhaps prevented the string of poor decisions, ie, Koonce, Costello, Geiger and Braun. Wow..what a track record. Who were these people on the decision making committee??? The thing is there are people who still care but frighteningly few. Can the program persevere and thrive eventually even if current AD in place? Or are we indeed on the way toward her cliche ridden peppy vapid and inocous manisfesto, Path to Prominence?

Interesting how it’s only a one year extension.
