So the bracket is out, Bucky and the Golden Eagles are on the same seed line for just the second time ever: both are 5s. so thoughts? sleepers? or are we going to see a ton of chalk?

- Marquette/Murray State should be fun.
- NKU was fortunate to get a 14 seed given other upsets in conference tourneys but should be one and done again.

Should have known better: the NET ratings just weren't applied all that much, just as the RPI before it. For Arizona State, St. John's and Ohio State to be selected over Lipscomb, UNCG and Furman is criminal. Sadly, the regular season just doesn't mean much.

Both should have not been in and were not in. Also, Oregon beating Washington knocked UNCG out.

What stands out most for me is further proof of how the MVC has fallen. Seeding of it's teams at 15 and 7 in the NCAA and NIT tournaments respectively are cumulatively below the HL team seedings of 14 and 7. Even with the loss of Creighton, and more recently, Wichita State, I am surprised by how quickly this happened.

When your getting to 35, 36, 37 & 38 in the at-large. Crap shot. Very happy Belmont made it. Maybe, Ohio State should have been out.

Just like had anyone but WSU/NKU won our tournament, they probably would have been a 16 seed.

In the opinion of the "esteemed" J. Bias, the reason for the omission of programs like Lipscomb, Furman and UNCG was the inclusion of those like Abilene Christian and Prairie View A&M. So what we really need to do is get the latter schools to drop their D-1 programs. Problem solved!

Just two years ago we thought the MVC was competitively superior. I sure did.

It was indeed a bad year for the MVC. In fact, in kenpom's conference ratings, it finished 17th, to the Horizon's 18th.
If only that were the whole story. kenpom applies a numerical rating based on a very large number of characteristics, including, of course, success against other conferences, to derive each conference's strength. The HL's rating was -3.85. The MVC's rating was -1.07, a difference of 2.78 points. Now let me put that in context for you. The 25th rated conference, the OVC, had a numerical rating of -6.31, 2.46 points behind the HL. In other words, the HL was SUBSTANTIALLY closer to being the 25th best (or better said, worst) conference (out of 32) than it was to matching the MVC, the 17th rated conference.
The MVC had a record of 78-77 against other conferences this year. The Horizon was 59-90. Yeah, it was a bad year for the MVC. It's stlll miles better than the HL.

All those facts and figures. Yet there we are... ranked 18. One spot behind the almighty MVC. Not 25th.

CSU Northridge, who went 13-20 on the season, "qualified" for the CBI. Just keep telling yourselves these tournaments mean something.

I really think that the value of the third-tier tournaments is more intrinsic than extrinsic. In other words, programs can gain a great deal through their participation, but it's not something to show off to your friends. For my part, I wish that they were absorbed into the NIT.
