So what should OUR realistic goals for next year be? I will assume that they don't match those of the administration.

Goals are for anyone with control over something. It would be interesting to know what the AD's pre-season goals are. But we all know that is not likely.

We can only speculate what the athletic department's real goals for next year would be. They would probably be very similar to prior years. Some of the real goals would not be explicitly stated. Rather, they would be inconspicuous, even to those directly involved in the program.
Those real goals would be to have the athletic department stay out of the way of the upper level administration, so the latter can focus on other priorities. The real goals would include measures for managing resources efficiently and frugally while maintaining as much diversity in the workplace as possible.
The real goals would not be fan focused. I do not think they ever have been at this university. I wish they were.

You could have 3 to 5 new players next season getting most of the minutes, with guys who got minutes this season, in less roles. Coach Baldwin going in year 3, with other than Barnes, everyone is his recruit. So, it's fair to say 12-6 in the HL is a fair goal. Overall record, I can't go there yet as we have zero clue on the non-conference schedule.

Assuming no one important leaves, top 3 finish.

Goals for me would be to lose no more than 2 conference home games and no more than 4 conference road games.
I’d also like to see all of the incoming freshmen get playing time. No more redshirting since it only seems to come back and bite midmajors due to the grad transfer rule.

Also, redshirting is weird in this new era of the grad transfers as college basketball teams can really fills holes. Not sure why Shae Mitchell red-shirted this season. One would think we could have used him.

If so, schools would be firing coaches at 2-3x the current rate. That is not what I meant. What I am referring to are athletic department goals that focus on things that would get fans excited about and engaged in the program. Of course, winning consistently is always something that energizes a fan base, but also things like meaningful community involvement, affable notable figureheads who proactively seek public relations opportunities, transparent customer-centric communication with fans, free food, effective use of social and other media, individual season ticket account reps, etc. They already do some of this but often in a disjointed manner. Some of these things cost money, but not all of them. One needs to look no further than Grand Canyon University as an example of an effective fan-focused program. Their successes are likely attributable, in part, to having measurable fan-focused goals each and every year. Having stated that, I know any meaningful fan-focused goals would be extremely challenging to achieve for UWM because of bad blood, alumni apathy, political posturing and bureaucratic inefficiencies. At least the effort should be there. It would require cultural change that would evolve over several years. It would have to start sometime - hopefully at least with the next chancellor and athletic director.

Hey I am new to the board, but I do live in Peoria, Illinois which is close to Bloomington Normal. I think CJ Wilbourn is a diamond in the rough. He is one of the most underrated player in the state. Normal Community is ranked 3rd in the state according to the AP poll. However, outside of CJ the team is below average. He is an amazing defender who can guard 3-4 positions. He is averaging 18 points and 7 rebounds a game for a team who plays at a snail pace at best. He has a beautiful jump shot and sneaky athletic. He is playing center because he is the tallest kid but he can be a stretch 4 or even an 3. I know I went to the Bloomington game a month ago. He went against Chris Payton who is a consensus top 5 player in the state and he scored 26 on him and held him to 12 points. I think he will win conference player of the year and he will more than likely be first or second team all state. In Illinois, that is highly impressive especially considering the Chicago area He is not flashy at all but he is all substance. My friend is an assistant in Normal and he tells me CJ leads by example, he has a 3.9 GPA, 26 ACT, just a great kid who comes from an amazing family. He is going to be an amazing player for the Panthers.

Glad to hear he’s even better off the court too. I think Year 3 is going to be a big turnaround for this team and for Coach Baldwin. And it sounds like CJ will play a nice role in that turnaround.
