God bless the folks on the Wright State board for suffering the indignity of this endeavor. Through 24 non-conference games, the Horizon League has posted a collective record of 5-19. Special thanks to Wright State, IUPUI and Northern Kentucky, who to date are the ONLY programs that have kept us from being WORSE than the SWAC and the MEAC!!!

There are 352 D1 teams. That means any team ranked below 235 is in the bottom third of all D1 teams. Currently per kenpom, 7 of the 10 HL teams are ranked worse than 235. 70% of the league. No HL teams are currently in the top third of all D1 programs.
Going back at least 15 years the HL has never had more than five teams in the bottom third at the end of the year, and that only happened twice. Last year and the year before. As recently as 2014 (I seem to recall that the league's tournament winner that year was a local squad) only 1 team in the entire league was in the bottom third.
While other leagues have elevated to mid-major status, ours continues to plunge.

FWIW - IUPUI beat Boston College the other night - even blind pig finds an acorn once inawhile Yes. Thanks for pointing out the impressive news. No doubt it was only a total fluke of a miracle (like that blind pig stumbling across that acorn) that led to the win. Nothing to do with talented players, teamwork, smarts, good coaching, hard work, etc.

By my count, the HL record is now 14-23 against D1 competition. Nothing to boast about, but much better than the 5-19 record stated in the initial post.
Maybe the HL is just after midnight at summer solstice north of the Arctic Circle and the sun is starting to rise again!?!?!

19-23 overall. Too lazy too look up versus D1 on this Sunday morning.

My math was off in my initial post. I corrected it. 14-23 vs D1 opponents. 5-0 vs non-D1. The 9-4 record since this thread started is encouraging.

Another good night for the HL, going 3-1 vs D1 competition. The only loss was CSU vs #23 Ohio State.

You have to believe that the top 3 are Northern Kentucky, Wright State and UIC! After that, it's wide open!

For the second straight day, it's another 3-1 day for the HL (not counting UIC's non-DI win over Parkside). And the only loss was NKU missing picking up a Top 40 win, on the road, at UCF. If Oakland and CSU can both win the HL's only two games tomorrow (both at home), the league will be nearing .500 vs DI. And also approaching C-USA for 15th of 32 in the rankings, as crazy as that is. barttorvik.com/trankslice.php?year=2019&conyes=1#
