I thought this would be a good place to talk about the 2018-19 Panther team. Instead of placing things around the roster thread or other threads out there.

2-16 in conference. Abysmal all around. The sky is falling. RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE. All kidding aside, I cant wait for the season to start. Lots of new faces, fresh energy, essentially an entirely different team to try and figure out from a fan perspective. From the looks of all things, they are gelling together well. Little over a month to go!

I am looking forward to the season. Coach Baldwin is engaged in the community like no other coach. He seems to enjoy it as well. That doesn’t mean this will lead to a championship. It is understandable that Stull left. Like many other graduates he transferred to a major program. Bell’s transfer is a little puzzling but it appears Barnes is ready to take the next step. Time will tell. Nze will be missed. It will be interesting to watch his development at Butler. The Horizon League is wide open. Enjoy it and support the athletes.

I have no idea how the team will perform so predicting a record is pointless. The non-conference record is probably going to be bad considering how many guys are new and need time to gel and adjust to D1 basketball. JUCO players have typically taken their first year here adjusting to the new level. I’m looking forward to seeing the returning guys and seeing what Abram can offer.

I could see one or both as starters in DeAndre Abram & Carson Warren-Newsome.

I'm predicting 7-9 non-conference wins.

The analysis puts the Panthers in the bottom third of all D1 programs, with plenty of Horizon League teams below them. The best-rated HL team, Wright State, is ranked 110th. My question: do you suppose the folks behind this really put the time in to look at all 353 programs?

I don't know how CBS does their rankings, but kenpom is a statistics based analysis that certainly does look at all teams and is the gold standard. Milwaukee is 261 in his pre-season rankings.
Under the circumstances, I was expecting worse. Of course, like all such systems it needs data. By the end of the non-con we will know much better where this team stands vis-a-vis other programs and vis-a-vis its predecessors.
FWIW, kenpom ranks the HL 26th of 33 conferences -- its worst ranking ever. Welcome to another stirring season of low-major basketball.

There were 4x’s the press & media coverage at my son’s travel baseball tryouts than UWM’s so called media day. 80% of seats @ The Arena are tarped over. Attendance down 130% from three seasons ago. Team picked for 8th in a totally crap league! Wow, glad the program has turned the corner! Great leaders! Right?
