uwmfreak.proboards.com/post/136679And today it was announced that a local standout has accepted a verbal offer of a scholarship for 2019-20: uwmfreak.proboards.com/post/137317Coach Rechlicz has retweeted this, but they haven't announced it at mkepanthers.com or mentioned it yet on the program's twitter account. That's the earliest i can remember hearing about a verbal. i'm guessing this is a player the staff is pleased to get. Apparently she's a sharpshooter.

It would seem so.
They signed four players to replace this year’s senior class, all of whom were, I believe, on scholarship. If they’ve added a fifth freshman, that suggests someone else is leaving. Who that might be, i can’t begin to guess.

The 2018-19 roster is now up on mkepanthers.com: mkepanthers.com/roster.aspx?path=wbballi compared the roster with last season, and it appears that all the players who didn't graduate have returned, so the late addition apparently is not replacing anyone. A propos of nothing, they have a nice variety of majors on the squad. Three of the freshman are listed as undecided, but one is a Psychology major and one is a Physics major.

They start on the road with Indiana, who defeated them rather easily (at home) in round two of the WNIT.
Kyle Rechlicz definitely believes in challenging her team during the non-league season.

Apparently the pundits think the jury is very much out on the Milwaukee Women's BB team, at least so far as the pre-season poll goes: www.horizonleague.org/news/2018/10/17/womens-basketball-green-bay-voted-hlwbb-favorite-iupuis-williams-tabbed-preseason-player-of-the-year.aspxGreen Bay is picked to finish first. That's no surprise. The Panthers are picked to finish fifth...just in the top half of the league. Not an entirely unreasonable ranking, given that the Panthers graduated four seniors who were generally leaders. But the cupboard is not entirely bare. Jamie Reit and Lizzie Odegard (both Juniors) and McKaela Schmelzer (redshirt Sophomore) saw a lot of court time last year. Ryaen Johnson is a senior, and saw more time last season than the previous year; Akaylah Hayes is also a senior. Brandi Bisping (Sophomore) and Alyssa Fischer (Junior) saw a fair amount of court time. There are a number of newcomers whose development over the course of the season will have a big impact on the team's success, since Coach Rechlicz has shown a willingness to play freshmen she feels are ready for the challenge. But the big factor among the newcomers should be Bre Cera, a redshirt Sophomore who transferred from the University of Iowa and sat out last season because of it. She's had a season to practice and acclimate herself to her teammates. She was a highly sought-after player that Milwaukee recruited aggressively and the program was very happy when she decided she wanted to come back home to Wisconsin. i won't be surprised if the Panthers do finish in the middle of the pack. The league has been getting better top to bottom over the past several seasons. But i won't be surprised if they finish much higher than expected, either. The new Panthers include several players who competed for state high school championships in 2018, and most of those players wound up winning those championships.

I couldn’t follow the game last night, but the team played pretty well, coming up two points short of Indiana, 68-66. The Panthers had a one point lead in the last minute of the fourth quarter. Indiana scored three points to reach the final score. The Panthers had just 1.2 seconds to try for a tie or for the win, and weren’t able to do so.

Takeways/Questions from the Indiana game: - Jamie Reit is, at present, the lone starter from last season (McKaela Schmelzer is still playing soccer). Reit has always been a scorer, but this year she's probably the scorer. The question is can she be a consistent scorer?
- It will be interesting to see who else can emerge as a scorer alongside Reit. Alyssa Fischer? Lizzie Odegard? Bre Cera? One of the freshmen?
- Megan Walstad started. She scored 11 points in 19 minutes before fouling out. How quickly will she learn how to stay in the game? How quickly will the other newcomers prove themselves ready for regular minutes?
