The tournament has been so boring for the last few years so I am very happy to see some good upsets. Hopefully it extends past the first weekend.

It's too bad the ACC team wasn't Duke or UNC. Virginia is on of the schools that seems all class. Well said.

I know these teams can play. How can you put them in when their resume does not look to be one of the best 36 at-large? Look up from the printouts and watch the games? Not to go round and round on this. Everyone will have a different view in how to judge a team. I would rather see the little guys like St. Mary's, Middle Tennessee State get the Dayton bid over Syracuse and Arizona State.

After UCLA and Arizona were ejected I was hoping a couple of the other cheats -- notably Auburn, Va Tech, UNC and Kentucky -- would be next. I loved seeing a 16 beat a 1 but it would have been so much sweeter to see one of those teams get burned.

To get in the NCAA Tournament, UMBC had to win the America East Championship game at Vermont - against Vermont. The Catamounts had won their previous 22 meetings with the Retrievers, with UMBC's last victory in the series coming in 2007. Vermont had lost one America East game in the last two years going into the title game.
Just to get to the Big Dance, the UMBC Retrievers had to be bathed in fire. They had to topple the top seed, on the road, in a packed nut house.
They were ready for Virginia.

Well said, Jimmy. The magic in March is mostly provided by the mids.
I'm so tired of first round games being wasted on matchups like Syracuse/TCU. Other than the fan bases of those two schools (neither of which showed up in Detroit) did ANYONE care who won that game?
By the way, I expect Kansas State to beat UMBC by double digits. The Cinderella story will end there, but if it does, at least my old UWM contemporary Bruce Weber will move on to the Sweet 16.

I remain concerned about the potential for benality in the Round of 32 and beyond. Let's hope that there are at least a FEW upsets in Round 2.

To be honest, this is starting to feel like one of those snoozefests where Kentucky or Duke or Kansas ends up winning. Hope I'm wrong.

Actually, the only truly good team in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota combined!

Actually, the only truly good team in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota combined! That’s not saying much for Minnesota considering they’ve had one NCAA tournament win in 28 years.

WOW. Best ending yet sees Michigan win at the buzzer on a Milwaukee kid’s shot.

Michigan hits a long 3 at the buzzer to edge Houston. Why didnt Houston have someone guarding the inbounder? didnt they watch Christian Lattner's shot?
