Hopefully this investigation once and for all puts the lie to the abusive, profit-mongering system that is the NCAA and reforms the entire apparatus of college sports. Doubtful, sadly. Money will always be part of college athletics but one major bump would be to finally end the sham that is considered "amateurism". Paying athletes has been going on forever yet people still think the amateurism route is the right way to go despite that fact it's proven to fail over and over and over. The one-and-done guys aren't going to college for an education. They know it, the coaches know it and the schools know it yet apparently the concept of amateurism should remain in tact. Hard to fault that logic

Hard to fault that logic These are separate issues. The "solution" (or as close as you'll get to one) for "one and dones" is to get the NBA to lift the rule disallowing signing kids straight out of high school. As for the amateurism issue, I would like to see better stipends for athletes in the money sports. That will ease some of the problem. But it won't solve it. Even if you take all the "one and dones" out of the equation, there will still be a next tier of players who are better than the rest (or whom college coaches think are better) and there are still morally compromised coaches, parents and hangers-on who will try to exploit them. You really think a Pearl or a Pitino or an Alford or a Williams wouldn't still be willing to bend or break the rules if he thought it would give him an advantage with such players? You're not that naive. The best players available are the best players available, even if they aren't good enough for the NBA. There have been cheats in the college game at the high levels since the days of Wooden and McGuire and Rupp, but if there's one thing that has exacerbated the problem in the last 25 years it's the explosion of AAU basketball. Calling that stuff a cesspool is an insult to cesspools. And there's another thing: the explosion of recruiting sites, recruiting "gurus" and even recruiting message boards. It does the game no good.

Remember the lefty schools power the rules for the NCAA. West coast schools? I'm confused. Obviously he's referring to Davidson, Maryland, James Madison and Georgia State, because those are the schools coached by Lefty Driesell.

Per ESPN, Pearl isn't cooperating with Auburn's internal investigation and could be fired if he doesn't start.
Can't imagine he'd have anything to hide lol

Jeff Van Gundy during last night's Warriors-Timberwolves game: "Different programs have different 'salary caps.' "
Great, great line!

Are you guys following this? By the time this is done, we might have an at-large berth!!!

We may have moved at least one notch closer to an at-large bid with what is going on at Arizona. I cannot imagine Sean Miller ever coaching college basketball again, unless his lawyers can make a case his wire tapped discussion with an agent is fake. Regardless, his credibility and reputation has been severely tarnished.
As for everything else being reported and speculated, it is hard to grasp right now. There are so many moving parts. Whereas some reportedly involved coaches and programs may be only involved by innocent association with players who dealt with scuzzy agents, other coaches and programs are probably pretty shady.
One thing we can easily grasp at this time is how generally messed up up NCAA compliance oversite has been. Competitive programs just assumed they could get away with rule breaking just because it is so entrenched in the culture. It is as if everyone else is going 15 mph over the speed limit, it must be OK if I do too.

Wisconsin isnt one of the schools named, neither is Marquette, which is good. Basically , pretty much all the blue bloods are named here( the UNCS, Dukes Kansas, etc) and frankly I dont think anyone is surprised at that. where do nearly all the 5 star players go? you got it, the bluebloods. its rare that a team like Wisconsin or Butler or VCU are good enough to go deep into the tournament, because they dont get the top end people.
