i think we've only had both UWM teams in the NCAA tourney at the same time once, in the mid-2000s. We all know that UConn is likely to win its fifth straight national title, its news when they dont win by 20 points. Still just getting into the field of 64 is an accomplishmenmt 2006 was my freshman year, pretty much the best time for me as a student at UWM.

2006 was my senior year, we made the Dance in 2003, 2005 and 2006, only missing 4 straight due to missed free throws against UIC in the 2004 Horizon title game.

Shucks. Unfortunate loss at the end. Sierra Ford-Washington dribbled right into a trap with about a minute to go when she had a wide-open teammate at the elbow. That play goes the other way, we may have taken a lead.
Good season. We'll see if AB has the same standards for both basketball teams or if she was full of sh*t, but I really hope they get a chance to keep playing. Hit their stride late.

We'll see if AB has the same standards for both basketball teams or if she was full of sh*t, but I really hope they get a chance to keep playing. Hit their stride late. This was tough loss, but it shows the difference between Green Bay and the rest of the league. The Phoenix play with such confidence on offense and defense. They make their opponents, in most cases, play with at least a little hesitation, and the Phoenix are even better in the clutch. But let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. This is not the uber-dominant Phoenix team of years passed. The Phoenix lost three league games this season, and still have to win another game to get into the dance. i see that Detroit beat Wright State pretty handily in the second semi-final. The Titans beat the Phoenix in Detroit, and there will probably be a good number of Titan fans in the stands for the final. That game could be really good. The HL women's who finishes highest in the league but does not go to the NCAA gets the League's auto-bid to the WNIT. The Panthers got a bid last year because they were the second seed. Wright State tied the Panthers in league record, so they also got a bid, one of five HL teams playing after the league tournament: Green Bay in the NCAA, Milwaukee and Wright State in the WNIT, and Northern Kentucky and Youngstown State in the Women's Basketball Invitational. Per her post-game comments as posted on mkepanthers.com, Coach Rechlicz is hoping for an invite from either the WNIT or the WBI. The Panthers were one of three HL teams to finish with 20 victories for the season, so a bid to either tournament wouldn't be a surprise. It remains to be seen whether the AD will be consistent and tell the Panthers, if they get a bid to the WBI, that such a tournament isn't a worthy investment of the program's time and money.

To no one's surprise, Green Bay won the Horizon League's tournament and the auto-bid to the NCAA tournament. With the exception of their big win over Valparaiso, the Phoenix had to work harder for their tournament wins this year, though.
At the one point in the season when i checked, Green Bay had an RPI number far below 100, and none of the other teams in the league were close. As of the last published rankings, Green Bay's RPI was 26. The next three league teams were Detroit, Wright State, and Milwaukee, all in the low to mid 140s.
Wright State has gotten the League's auto-bid to the WNIT for finishing second in the League (regular season record; Green Bay had the tie-breaker). Milwaukee had 20 wins and Detroit had 18, but the Titans made it to the HL tournament final game.
The rest of the field for the WNIT (64 teams total) and the Women's Basketball Invitational (16 teams total) will be announced shortly after the NCAA tournament field is announced on Monday.

After placing four to five teams in post-season tournaments the past couple of years, the Horizon League has three teams playing post-season ball:
Green Bay is a #8 seed in the NCAA tournament, playing #9 Purdue at 5:00 pm on Friday on ESPN2. Purdue was fifth in the regular season, but was the tournament runner up in the Big 10.
Wright State is playing Central Michigan on Thursday in the WNIT; time is still TBA.
Milwaukee is hosting SIU on Wednesday night in the WBI.

Panthers are down 1 after the 1st. Akeem is in attendance. Play is very uneven. You can tell it's been more that a week since the Panthers last played. They've settled in in the second quarter. Up 36-32 at the under-four time-out.
