mkepanthers.com/news/2018/4/27/mens-basketball-wright-signs-national-letter-of-intent-with-panthers.aspx"Jake is a great addition to our program, as he exhibits all of the qualities and characteristics we covet in our student-athletes," Baldwin said. "We incorporate a lot of spacing, shooting and ball movement and Jake will be a great contributor to our offensive model." In 92 career games, he has scored 714 points, an average of 7.8 points-per-game. He brings an impressive three-point shooting touch; sinking 192 three's in his career, making them at a 40 percent clip. He also brings a career free-throw mark of 84 percent from the line. "He is one of the best shooters in college basketball and he works diligently to add other components to his game," Baldwin said. "His leadership, work ethic and dedication are noteworthy attributes that will pay immediate dividends for our team."

We need some good news in this program, but I want to stress that we shouldn't be adding players just to add bodies. You don't want to commit a scholarship to a player unless you're sure they can or will contribute. You don't want to be in the sh*tty situation of having to tell a kid who can't play at your level that he has to go away. Obviously that sometimes happens anyways, but if you know ahead of time you're just filling a roster spot, don't.
With the way transferring has evolved into an epidemic in college basketball over the last ten years, and the current state of the program, it would be prudent of Milwaukee to leave two of these scholarships open so we can pick up a mid-season transfer or two. Holic alluded to this in an earlier post.
As for the Christmas thing, I'd have been pissed if I were a player. But even if I was of the age, had requisite talent I also wouldn't be a good college basketball player. This incident is something that happens at a lot of Division I programs. I don't like it, but Baldwin wasn't doing something plenty of coaches aren't also doing, successful ones included.

If the players were professionals, I'd have less of an issue with them not being allowed to go home for the holidays. But these are college kids who represent the school without drawing a dime. Honestly, what reportedly happened is despicable!

Honestly, what reportedly happened is despicable! Terrible what happened. May have been PBs way of pushing some kids out so he could bring in his own who knows. But the real problem isn't the coaches forcing his team to stay over the holidays, because I'm sure PB isn't the only coach in the nation who did this, the real problem is the NCAA as a whole. There's no way kids should be more than 50% and not recieve a dime. But as long as that's the way the NCAA is set up you can expect to see things like the "Xmas Scandal" happen.

I don't think the kids should get a dime. Want to change the rules to benefit the players more, fine. They shouldn't get paychecks.
As for the Christmas thing which was never said until Monday over here, I don't know the truth. PB is stuck because he is the third coach for some of the players in three years. Everyone is their own person and has their own style.

Based on some of the opinions expressed on this board, I must be missing something regarding the Christmas thing. All I know about it is from a comment on this board by davedome that PB would not let his players go home for Christmas and then appearing at that time only to sign a paper. Also, davedome commented that the one player who did not show up at Christmas was benched.
The most frustrating part of being a Panther fan is that the program's lack of relevance leaves us with nothing more than having to share unconfirmed information on this board and/or by talking among ourselves. We do not receive the benefit of unbiased, in-depth reporting. What we are left with is mere gossip. This results in unfair speculation. What is the source of davedome's information? Is the information coming from a credible source? Can credible sources confirm the source's comments? What is PB's side of the story? Were the players expected to remain on campus each and every day between the 12/22 Western Michigan and 12/28 Oakland games? If the "benched" player was Jeremy Johnson, what about the alleged illness at the same time (he did look noticeably thinner when he returned later in the season for mop-up duty)? Nze was benched from the starting line-up after the 12/28 game, but wasn't that entirely because of his having been tossed from the Oakland game and/or his subsequent actions that immediately followed? If the benched player was not Johnson or Nze, then who was it? What did other teams do about a Christmas break with the conference season starting three days after Christmas break?
Mike Rice's actions at Rutger's, as shown on video tape, were despicable. Joe Paterno's apparent intentional ignorance to things going on around him was despicable. Some may say physical contact by coaches like Bobby Knight and Woody Hayes are at least in retrospect, despicable. I am sure no one would say PB's alleged action at Christmas was on the same level as the aforementioned, but I think we should reserve judgment when it comes to rumors, gossip and hearsay.
If davedome or anyone else can provide more detail, I would love to hear it.
On the other hand, I am still befuddled by the 3/27/18 Rosiak report in which PB was quoted as saying all remaining players, including Nze, Stull and Bell, told him they were coming back, and news of their departure four weeks later. Why the disconnect? Or what happened in those four weeks?

It was either a miscommunication or a misrepresentation, neither one of which is good.

Agreed, neither misrepresentation or miscommunication is good. But who was it by, the coach or the departing players???

but I think we should reserve judgment when it comes to rumors, gossip and hearsay. I confirmed it, which is why I said he wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary.

Confirmed what? As much as I would like the unbiased answers to all questions regarding the Christmas thing and so many other matters, I realize most such questions are limited to being nothing more than rhetorical.

It was either a miscommunication or a misrepresentation, neither one of which is good. What POSSIBLE benefit does Baldwin have to say there might be other departures at a later time but he's just not sure when or how many?

This whole situation is like an onion. The more layers you peel back, the more it stinks!
