Anybody else feel like JJ Panoske hasn't progressed all that much since his freshman year? Also two turnovers by your PG in OT is unacceptable. But if we play any defense at all we win that game. So close to being 6-1 instead of 4-3.

Actually JJ has come a long way. We won't have the season we want without him working the low post.
I am morally certain the coaches did not ask the inbounder to throw a cross court loop pass. That's on the players. He can't make that pass and the guys on the court have to help him by getting to where he can make a pass.

Fran, of course the coaching staff did not ask him to throw that pass. But that is exactly the problem! These guys have to be disciplined enough to be able to execute a play like that out of time-out. SO many mental errors during the end of the last 2 games. Mental mistakes from a basketball team are a reflection of how they are coached. Hopefully they will learn from their mistakes and these tough games will help them in league play.

I agree with that. But I suspect fatigue is also a very significant factor in poor decision-making right now. This was the team's 7th game in 13 days. Eight games in 14 days! That's simply outrageous, and I will be honest that it makes me very concerned about tomorrow's game, whoever we are playing.
The flip side of this ridiculous schedule is that after tomorrow we will play only five games in the following 35 days before we begin conference play against Wright State on January 2. On average, only one game a week, which is just as outrageous. But on the bright side it gives the coaches a LOT of practice time and the players the opportunity to regain their legs and get stronger.
I remain convinced that this is a very good team. Would have liked to win two in Florida but for me the non-con season is always about getting ready for conference play anyway. The team and coaches are learning a lot right now that I think will pay big dividends down the stretch when the games really count.

Followup note: Did a quick check on Kenpom. As best I can tell, no team in his top 200 has played as many games to start the season as we have through today. (That may be true for the bottom 150 also -- I just didn't look.)
Then add the fact that ONE of our games was at home, and most of them followed cross-country travel.

How does JJ go 0-4 from 3 and 0-0 from the FT line? At some point that needs to change.

The hot start to the season has certainly lost it's luster in the past two days...

The hot start to the season has certainly lost it's luster in the past two days... It's depends how you look at it. Both games came in the final seconds. Really can't hang your head about that. How many non-conference games last year did the Panthers just get blown out in? Too many.

The defense is what has concerned me in the past 2 games. Too many open 3s, hopefully this is something that can be shored up by HL play because as ghost said perfectly, that is all that really matters to our tourney hopes

Like it or not, the conference season and tournament are all that matter ... almost certainly for every league member. I disagree entirely. It's not just about an at-large bid (I'm aware it's extremely unlikely for any Horizon League team right now) These games determine what kind of seed you get should you win the automatic bid. These games are the difference between being a 12 or 13 seed and a 15. It greatly changes your chances of succeeding in the NCAA tournament, it's not about helping us make the tournament.
