Per the box Jordan only had 2 turnovers, which compares very favorably to his 9 assists. Where we really got hurt was the turnovers from our upperclassmen big men -- JJ, Matt and AA. Murray State puts a lot of pressure on but seniors need to gather themselves and make good decisions with the ball. I'm a big fan of all three of these kids but this is a persistent problem, and as I keep saying, it will set our ceiling one way or the other. More turnovers means more losses. Fewer turnovers means more wins.
Basketball is brutally simple in some respects, and this is one of them; you can't score without the ball.

It was hard at work trying to understand what was going on in the game, with the WISN feed cutting out. Disappointing how a comfortable halftime lead, was gone just like that. The Racers built the lead and the Panthers showed great fight to come back, but turnovers and getting key rebounds cost them the win.
Coaching staff was very frustrated with only seven attempts from the foul line.

Coaching staff was very frustrated with only seven attempts from the foul line. IMO, that means the coaching staff is focused on what they can't control, instead of what they can. And in the words of Yoda, that is why you fail. This was an incredibly winnable game for these players. Very sad.

That may be a little unfair. We took 25 threes. Murray State took 17. That alone tells you we settled too often for jump shots. You will go to the foul line more by driving the hoop, and considering what a good free throw shooting team we are, that's a good strategy. Instead, Murray State attacked, and as a result, even though they shot only 61% from the line, had a 6 point advantage at the line. In a 3 point game.
So the frustration may have been less with the officiating and more with the approach our guys took to the game offensively. That, the coaches CAN control. And should. It's very easy to fall in love with the three, but there's a high risk/reward with that approach. If they aren't falling, good luck. Murray State showed there's another way to win.
What's frustrating is that we have the ability to do both: attack the rim AND shoot the three. But yesterday we not only were careless with the ball, we also played an unbalanced strategy that relied too much on jump shots.
I think we will bounce back; our coaches are far too good not to see what happened yesterday. But the proof will be in the pudding. Let's try to salvage a couple wins the next two days.
