This is putting the proverbial cart before the horse.
Simply put, Horizon League teams still don't have large dedicated fan bases who travel for this to work. The league and the schools need to work on building fan bases willing to travel to road games before re-installing a neutral site tournament.
And establishing fan bases willing to travel is pretty damn tough to do with the HL's scheduling format and inconsistencies of recent years. If OU and UDM lose their opening games next year, there will be crickets in the arena in subsequent rounds.
The reason why the MVC and Arch Madness work in St. Louis is because those schools are largely THE winter sporting attraction in their town. Wichita, Omaha (when Creighton was in the league), Cedar Rapids, Peoria, Springfield, Carbondale, Evansville, Terre Haute, etc. (Sorry, Loyola). They all are the main show in town during winter. They have established season-ticket holder bases who budget time and money for annual trips to St. Louis the first weekend of March.
You want to force this move on fans? Fine. Here's the only feasible way it has a chance of working:
You have to have the championship game on a Sunday, with a Thursday through Sunday tournament schedule.
Heck, line it up with the MVC schedule and have the final on ESPN shortly after CBS finishes airing the MVC game. (I could get greedy and say air it on CBS before the MVC game, but I don't live in a pink-sky world.).
That will at least give die-hard fans (forget the casual fans; they aren't traveling to the tournament) more incentive to take a day or two off from work to attend, and give them the chance to kill some time in Windsor by throwing a loonie down a stripper's g-string.

Heaven forbid that they put a championship involving Milwaukee in God-forsaken Milwaukee. No one would show. Crickets would fill the building ... Oh, wait! If you don't learn from history, you are doomed to repeat it.

Perfectly stated. I have nothing to add.

Bad for conference branding: 2003 2004 No footage or images can be found, therefore it never happened. 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015

Yeah, you don't want that!
I get goose bumps watching Wright State and Valpo rush the floor, but that's all gone now. Midcourt after the title game will more closely resemble bus-riders waiting for the 15.
I looked at this topic on the Oakland board and there were 17 posts, including a few informational ones and Jimmy's inquiry about the location of the new arena. Thirteen -- 13 -- posts among the fans of the program with the most to gain were against the tournament's permanent relocation.
Horizon League decision-makers, are you listening?

"The world is changing fast, with social media and other things," Kampe said. "If you don't change with it, you're gonna fall to the side."
Usually, the Horizon League falls to the side because of its inaction. Not this time.
This time, LeCrone has taken the best part of his legacy and smashed it to pieces.

Oh, my! I'd never seen that. I just had a flash of Chris Farley impersonating Rikk Wilde.
"Remember that time you were the MVP? Was that cool?"

I'll defer to the late Senator Ted Stevens explaining the Internet.

Anyways back to the topic there isn't any chance of changing the minds of the powers that be. They are steeped in their horribly flawed logic/rhetoric. The only way it'll change is if it fails. Even that idiot from the Freep thinks people will come to Detroit like it's some destination city. Fans can't sellout their home venues yet they'll travel unwanted distances to unwanted cities to still not fill the newer/larger venue? Green Bay can't sellout a semifinal home game vs Milwaukee on a Saturday yet they'll all go to Detroit on a Tuesday? Alrighty...
In the mean time, I still want answers from Amanda on wtf she's thinking.
