The West Allis Central Bulldogs are headed to the Boys Basketball D1 Final Four in Madison after upsetting Marquette 54-51. I believe this is a first for WAC.
Suck it Hale!

56-51, the last second shot they made was counted. I was at this game. Marquette for all its prowess in soccer and tennis, has only been to state in basketball since joining the WIAA once. still there's a reason its very hard to beat a team 3 times in a year- they had beaten WAC twice by 3 at at WAC and by 24 at Marquette..Still Marquette probably should have won, they were up 6 with 2 minutes to play.

I couldn't make the game so I relied on the WIAA feed, they had 54-51. I was at the last few WAC home games and you could see the team starting to play a lot better than earlier in the year. Things started coming together.
I had to throw in the shot at Hale because we know someone who transferred their kids to Hale, saying how great Hale Boys BB was going to be this year and trash talking WAC. BlackPantherU (Jimmy) being a Hale grad knows what the rivalry is like.
And I have to say Chip MacKenzie is a great addition to the WAC family. The UWM loss is our gain.

There was no real rivalry in my time. Just a lot of jealousy from Central kids who thought Hale's kids were all rich. I certainly wasn't, but some were well off. Back then, they cleaned us in football and we cleaned them in basketball. I guess it's the other way around now. I wish those games had been competitive. Hale just never put it all together in sports. We only had a state runnerup trophy in cross country when I was there. Sent from my SCH-R970 using proboards

There is a rivalry. People I know now who went to WAC within the past 25 years talk about the rivalry. Maybe it wasn't as intense when you went to Hale.
It's fun to see happening. There is a buzz around school. My daughter gets to play in the band at the Kohl Center. It will be a neat experience for the kids.
And the current attitude regarding the schools from parents in the district is that Hale is the district college prep school, in particular a Wisc-Madison prep school, and WAC is for those going to tech colleges or "lesser" UW system schools.

the thing about basketball is that theres no cut line like in football where you have to be at least .500 in conference to get in.. you could be winless in the regular season and still get a playoff game. i'm glad for WAC this might be their first trip ever to state, or if its not the first, its the first in a very long time.
