Nice!
This is the kind of announcement I have been waiting for!
A real tournament with some solid teams is a great add!

I never really had an appreciation for how terrible the website redesign is until now. The window with which you actually read text takes up less than half of a standard HD screen. The rest is clutter and links. Ugh.

Wow, an actual tournament! Hopefully, we can get games against at least two of the following: Murray State, Central Michigan and Western Kentucky. Pepperdine wouldn't be bad either. They didn't have a senior on last year's 18-14 team

If the tournament was to be seeded by last year's RPI, the pairings would be:
No. 1 Murray State vs. No. 8 Drake No. 2 Central Michigan vs. No. 7 Weber State No. 3 Western Kentucky vs. No. 6 Duquesne No. 4 Pepperdine vs. No. 5 Milwaukee

That tournament is a nice catch for us. Talking with folks recently it will be another very difficult task to put the schedule together this season. When MAC schools are paying for games (and they are) it demonstrates what a difficult spot we are in. Believe it or not, Wake Forest and Oregon State and Texas Tech and all the other second division power conference schools are not interested in home and homes with us. They aren't even interested in homes. Why? It's not hard to understand. We thought we were going to open the season at a school like that; then they had second thoughts. Mid-majors like us are as eager to get home games as we are, and just like us, they want the opportunity to win. And low majors are looking for a check -- something we can't give them. And on top of all that the league's failure to add a tenth team again this year puts a two game hole in the schedule on top of the two game hole from the demise of the Bracket Buster.
Bottom line: we would be foolish not to expect a D2 school or two on the schedule again this year. Not a damn thing we can do about it. And that's probably true of almost every team in the league. There's no easy solution but in my opinion the Horizon really needs to get to work to add a team and to try to create some kind of "challenge" against a similar conference.

One thing that can be done in the Horizon League is for the league to have better dates/day of the conference schedule.

Sounds like a 10th team will be added this year.
It's supposedly a "natural traveling partner for Wright State."
If it's Belmont, our non-conference series is obviously off.

I think NKU is a better fit in the long run.
Adding Belmont shows them as upwardly mobile and able to be in a straight Midwest conference. I don't want the MVC to consider them a real possibility.

Wait, what's this business about not being in the conference in 5 years?
Also, IMO, Belmont is a home run. Somewhat less excited about NKU.

It's not a well-kept secret that Amanda has one eye on the future at all times. Obviously, this isn't a real attractive league right now.

That makes sense. I'm just not sure which league above us would be expanding in the near future. The only two leagues that would be a step-up and that might take us are the A10 and the Missouri Valley. If the A10 gets raided, then they will probably move to pick up a couple more schools. Will they look to the Midwest? Would the travel make sense for us? The valley could go to 12 at some point, would we be a strong candidate for them? If the Big East takes Wichita State (unlikely, I know) are they even a better league than the Horizon? That league also has more difficult travel than the Horizon.
Just a personal opinion, but if we get Belmont I think the Horizon is a better fit for us. We have comfortable travel, some history with rivals, and with Belmont we could be a really solid league.
