Matt Howard was probably the most ridiculous flopper I've seen in person.

Matt Howard was probably the most ridiculous flopper I've seen in person. I've learned one thing in my time here: the best players are the ones who frustrate you the most. Doesn't even have to be on other teams. Kaylon Williams, Jordan Aaron, Avery Smith - some of the most frustrating players we've had in the Jeter era, and some of the best.

I loved Matt Howard when he was playing against anyone other than Milwaukee.
He was the heart and soul of those great Butler teams.

Flopping is an essential element of great defense. There's a reason Coach K teaches it. It was always funny to watch Howard play in the NCAA Tournament and do his Butler Flop for about the first 10 minutes of the game until he realized real officials weren't going to call it the way Horizon League refs do and gave up on it altogether. As gratifying as it is to draw a charge with a great flop, it's equally satisfying to watch your team step over an uncalled floo and score an easy layup.

Do you guys think Larry Brown is a pretty fair coach?
You would be fascinated to hear what he has to say on the subject of a shorter shot clock.

I like getting rid of one timeout each! If they can start play at the second timeout horn sounds, that will help tons as well.

The timeout changes are good. The 30 second change is idiotic. The foolish assumption is that this will increase scoring (the even more foolish assumption is that increasing scoring by itself makes the game better or more attractive). In fact it will increase empty possessions and turnovers. Some games will have higher scores and some teams will score more, but it will often be horrifying to watch. Meanwhile, good defensive coaches are licking their chops. Disciplined defenses are going to punish undisciplined offensive teams which now have even less time to find a good shot, and offenses built for efficiency will eat this up. Bo Ryan must feel like a lottery winner. The whole thing is NBA envy -- except it ignores that the NBA's players are the best short time shotmakers on the planet. College players? Not so much.

"Our game is ugly right now. I think that our game will get uglier with a shorter clock."
Who said this?
Larry Brown!

Women's basketball has had a 30-second shot clock for years without issue, so the idea that it won't work is foolish. Once players practice for it and become used to it it will be fine. It didn't work in the NIT because nobody had played that way before.

It will work just fine -- to make the men's game look more like the women's game, I guess. Yay.
I ask these questions in all sincerity:
1) What is the problem it's supposed to address? 2) How does it fix that problem?
In 1970 the University of Iowa had a team for the ages. Powered by Milwaukee legends John Johnson and Downtown Freddy Brown the Hawks went 14-0 in the Big Ten and averaged 99 points a game! They lost in the round of 16 to eventual national runner-up Jacksonville (powered by "twin towers" Artis Gilmore and Pembroke Burrows III) 104-103, but it was a hell of a ride. Did I mention this was in the era before the 3 point shot?
Of course, the shot clock in 1970 wasn't 35. Or 30. It was 20.
Minutes.

As expected the rule has been adopted. Bo Ryan just won three more Big Ten titles. Expect ESPN analyst heads to explode as great defensive coaches use this idiocy to clamp down on scoring even more against mere college players. And expect to watch a lot of ugly, missed shot, turnover filled basketball.

Oh, baby! I can't wait to see Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Steph Curry, Chris Paul and Kyrie Irving beating the short clock with tough, contested, off-balance jumpers from 25 feet away!
Oh, wait ...

I love that the arc is going to 4 feet and the move from 5 to 4 team timeouts is a start. Should be fine with the 30 second shot clock. I'm sick of seeing some hold the ball, until 12 on the shot clock, not good for the game.

I agree. We're immediately going to routinely see scores of 93-90. Right?
