Cleveland State has horses we don't. It's all recruiting, with some blame to lay at the coaches' feet and other blame to be laid at the feet of the university administration, which does not do its part to make sure the coaching staff has the resources they need to build the best team possible. There are players in the Horizon League who could have come here and would make us better right now, but when we tried recruiting them admissions wouldn't even let them on campus. Why is that? Because admissions could tell they wouldn't get into UWM more than a year before they could step on campus, and would not allow the program to bring them in for an official visit. Obviously there's a reason I'm bringing this up following this game, and there are plenty of people who know at least a couple of the players I'm talking about. So let's keep those names off the boards to not embarrass them. I had to point it out. The coaches are not recruiting the best team possible. The university is ensuring that even if they do the best job they can recruiting, we're only getting 60-70% of what we could recruit. Is it cheating? I don't think so. Making sure those less fortunate get an education is what college athletics should be about. And the NCAA is the most hypocritical, dogsh*t organization this side of the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei. Remember Ricky Franklin? Great player, great guy. Couldn't qualify coming out of high school, so he sat 2005-06 off the team to get his grades up. Graduated with honors, scored 1,000 points and raising a family. Would we even be able to get Ricky on campus for an official visit in 2015? Who knows. What I do know is players that the university wouldn't allow on campus are on track to graduate or have graduated from other schools inside the conference (and in the MVC, MAC etc.). Jim Harbaugh's speech at the Michigan basketball game the other day was especially telling. It's nice to be able to put everything in a pretty box and say that it's the coach, or the AD. But the fact of the matter is the whole school, from our new Chancellor on down to the nose bleed season ticket holders, need to work together to make it happen or it's never going to happen. That's some serious excuse making. First, CSU doesn't have horses, they entered conference play 6-8, with an RPI around 200. You're upset you couldn't recruit Charles Lee? Who cares, he's just a guy, a midget 3 point gunner. Not a real PG. The admissions at Green Bay are every bit as tough as at UW-Milwaukee, yet Green Bay is doing just fine. Tons of questionable Jeter recruits have made it into your school. Don't make excuses, get to the heart of the problem. You need, and deserve, a real coach.

The total tonnage of what I know about your program would stop a team of oxen in its tracks.

I think we have to chalk this year up to some unfortunate circumstances, including APR ban, red-shirting of Austin, J J's lack of progress, some additonal injuries etc...hopefully can right the ship ..not saying point to next year but actually if truth be told probably the best approach. In the meantime though the attendance not the announced attendance has been somewhat shocking. There were a couple games I was at early (not the D2 games either) that there were fewer people than I ever remember at the lowest pt in Ric's era...I am wondering if the Rob Jeter era has run its course and gotten stale....just seems like no buzz and frankly even a die hard like myself has admittedly grown a lot more apathetic....the product is not particularly exciting and people do not seem to be responding to the product whether it be style of play or whatever.....I think we need some new fresh attitude to promote the program and get back some buzz...a charismatic leader....then again, isn't it about time to once again extend Rob's contract along with a raise on top of it???

I will care about this program as long as it's in Division 1, but I must admit that it's hard not to be at least a little apathetic.
With the exception of the stunning run through the Horizon League tournament a year ago, the results just haven't been there.
Starting in 2006-07, the program is now 120-142 against Division 1 competition.

Real conflicted here...was very hopefuly and felt a lot better after the run through the tourney. In other words perhaps really was some top notch coaching acumen learned over the years and finally manifesting itself...well,,,the APR ban was like a sledgehammer...here we have the whole great new arena thing and we took the air right out of the balloon...now, I can see where this could affect the enthusiasm and attitude of the team this year but to this extent??? You would think a solid or great coach could still motivate them a little bit that this??? Losing to SD, SIU- EDwS, Iupui , some of the lackluster and ugly play...jacking up threes constantly..weak defense...I don't know...maybe it has run its course...how many years stuck at $435,000+?? Would be a bit more optimistic but looking back we were below .500 in conferenc play so was that an aberration rather than at trend? Would like to think roster will look better next year but not sure about coaching, enthusiasm and if this thing has gotten stale...

Oh well...just looking back from the beginning of this thread noticed the comments on the access on-line . So many things like this including in the past advertising tickets for a game on the radio after the game has already been played, adverstising season tickets after with one or two games left on the schedule etc...frustrating things...current examples...our website....click on facilities...here we have the whole Arena thing, all the beautiful signage etc and there is nothing showing ....just Klotsche, natatorim, The Hank etcc but no Uw Milwaukee Panthers arena?? Has no one noticed this??? Also when you click on mens basketball line media guide,,there is no media guide for the current season? Does this mean there is not one?? Where have you gone Kevin O'Connor..a fan base turns its lonely eyes to you goo goo goo joob

Everybody's different so I won't tell others how to think or react. I will just tell you my view. For my part fandom is far beyond wins and losses. Of course they matter. But I view wins as wonderful gifts and losses as temporary irritations.
More important, decades of being a sports fan have allowed me to view any single season from a much broader perspective. This will be a poor season, objectively. But when I hear calls for a new coach I cannot help but recall that within the last four seasons we have won the conference in the regular season once and also won the conference tournament once. Objectively, that puts Rob and his staff in the elite of the league from a results standpoint. Moreover, when I look at the roster of returning players that we will have next year as well as the new players that will be coming in, it is very difficult not to believe that this year will be an aberration. Even further, if the arena is protected I have great confidence that with our division status secured and our own first-class arena, as well as the continuing plans for a new practice facility, our recruiting will be poised to take off. This is not just my conjecture but based on conversations that I have had with our recruiters.
I understand the alternative position. Let's go find a better coach. My concern is simply that that is not likely to happen. On the contrary, I think it is highly unlikely that we will hire a better coach or coaching staff than we have right now, not just from the standpoint of quality, but also from the standpoint of character. That is extremely important to me.
I am currently in the midst of a health issue that prevented me from attending the last two home games. I have been targeting the Green Bay game as the next game I could attend but very honestly I am not sure that will happen. Bluntly it just kills me to miss these games. I don't care if it's likely that we might lose to Green Bay by 30 points. I'm there to show the colors, to cheer the guys on my team, to see my friends, and enjoy the experience. And sometimes, even in a rough year, the team will surprise you. I can't imagine the day coming when I would not go to the games unless I could not, unless the University administration stops supporting the program or puts the program in the hands of people who do not have integrity. But until that happens, health allowing, I will see you at the games.
