Fran, Im with you. Just saying that the BMOBC is not a venue other entities outside of sport want to book and look to book on tours and such.
And I want it North of the current, and with little to no state funding, but the Jock Tax things sounds like it would work, but I havent read through it all, plus you have to wait to see what the legislation does with it too.

Geez, the one UWM grad in the local sports media and he doesn't have a clue about our program ... or has sold out.
The university had better be ready to fight its ass off.

i work with Drew and Alex at ESPN 540, and I do podcasts with Alex on Fridays when I go in. I will bring up the Arena issue on Friday when I go in. in short, the UWM Arena is a non-starter as a location for the Bucks arena for me. So hopefully i can at least keep them on the Bucks to chose another location.

DANGER WILL ROBINSON!!!! This delay and now the Marquette/Bucks thing is getting spooky. Rumors floating that the Journal Sentinel/Arena site has quietly come back into play with a potential swap of Marquette owned land near the YMCA in return for MU taking the Journal Sentinel site ...connect the dots...say it ain't so...it ain't over til its over

As a wrestling fan, I can expand upon Tommy's point and say that WWE would look at a brand new arena for their Summerslam rotation, which is their second-biggest pay per view of the year (after Wrestlemania, which is now only in NFL stadiums). That may not seem like much, but right now WWE hits Milwaukee twice a year, usually one televised show (the premium Raw or secondary Smackdown) and one live event (next one is March 15th). Very occasionally will Milwaukee get a lower-tier pay per view, which is essentially just a bigger version of Raw. Summerslam, on the other hand, comes along with a week of fan fare. It's basically a wrestling fans' convention, with not only the main Summerslam event but also wall-to-wall events across the week. Smaller wrestling promotions such as ROH and Dragongate will schedule events in the area leading up to it, a local promoter like David Herro would schedule a huge event in the area with plenty of former wrestlers who still have names to draw. Basically, it would bring wrestling fans flocking to town and spending a ton of cash in the area. Outside of that, WWE would likely be here 3-4 times per year as well. So, on the wrestling front alone having that arena could as much as triple the economic draw. As it is right now, it's basically a concert with most of the fans coming from the Chicagoland area and mainly Milwaukee. With the new arena, you'd have the national wrestling crowd descend upon the city when Summerslam comes to town. That may not sound like your cup of tea, but they bring cash and they spend it.

www.biztimes.com/article/20150204/BREAKINGNEWS/150209875Nothing really earth shattering, and definitely nothing set in stone (could still be a negotiation tactic), but Peter Feigin apparently announced that he's "guessing" that it will go north and west of the Journal Sentinel building. This is really the first I can remember hearing anybody actually associated with the Bucks saying that's the most likely spot (usually it's mentioned in an article without a quote from anybody with the Bucks saying so). I just wish they would announce that it is going there once and for all.

As Fran reiterated to me a short time ago, we should hope that shovels soon go into the ground "north and west of the Journal Sentinel building." Until and unless that time arrives, we should remain suspicious about their intentions.

Wasn't able to make the game Sunday but did listen to the entire game online at 38,000 feet. Didn't see my friend MUPanther but wanted to pass on a word to him of good news. The latest I heard from a close source to the new arena is that "it looks like I'll be keeping my Panther Arena after all." This is news since the last time I spoke with this source. The last time I spoke to this source, he/she said "We're tearing down your arena!" I'm new to the board but a long time Panther BBall fan.

Amanda Braun assured me last month in no uncertain terms they were done with the Arena as their spot. Glad to hear we're all hearing the same thing.

Thanks! And this source is on the billionaire side, not UWM as a stakeholder, so great news to hear. Glad to be on board. Fondest memories are Mark Mitchell alley oop passes to Graig Greene for a reverse dunk at the Klotsche. Or was it Olofu Agbaji that dunked it?

This is exactly the kind of reason why the Bucks and UWM having a sour relationship would do more harm than good to the Bucks franchise, not just the school: t.e2ma.net/message/qfg0g/ui54okJust ask the Brewers how important their marketing partnership is with the university, especially as UWM has put special emphasis on its own marketing department in the last four or five years. It would have been silly to risk alienating such a huge economic partner, which is likely one of the reasons for the change in apparent construction plans. (Also, $20 for a lower bowl seat is a hell of a deal, folks)

March 23. No announcement, the billionaires have dug in their heels on how much they will contribute to a palace that they want to own and control, the politicos are feeling the heat from the public and the JS is running articles about Las Vegas style Arenas and their ability to transform the downtown.
No news is not good news; once again I hope our University leaders are thinking strategically now so they won't be flailing reactively later.

Six months after the original deadline.
This is not good news for the university.
I hope our administrators don't have their heads up in the clouds again.
