Generally I prefer RC Cola to all sodas, but at the Arena they never got the mix right, it was always far more bitter than RC and Dr. Pepper taste out of the can (the Arena's seemed to taste like it wasn't using enough syrup). I hope they get the mix right with the Pepsi products, that will be the key.

This is wonderful news and may I dare say reestablishes the intent of the University to stay Division I. The Panther Arena is home to men’s basketball until another arena is built which is not a pipe dream but forward thinking. The program has just improved. Enjoy it. Support the Student Athletes by putting your butts in the seats and stop holding grudges which is not a flattering position for anyone holding a degree from UWM.

Grudges? Here's what an alum and former supporter, who wasn't opposed to Jeter's termination at the time, said to me when I invited him to a game one day over lunch: "Let me know when we're any damn good!"

It’s about time that’s been approved. When it’s built, that takes away one huge disadvantage UWM has had with recruiting for basketball, particularly compared to other schools in our conference.

If it will be funded with private donations and student segregated fees, why do you need the state to approve the project?

If it will be funded with private donations and student segregated fees, why do you need the state to approve the project? I could be wrong, but my thinking is that the segregated fees aren’t sufficient at this time but they will be sufficient in time. Basically, the state would have to loan money to UWM and get paid back through these segregated fees. I could be way off on this but I thought I read it somewhere.

That was the initial plan that Walker rejected twice. This last time it was purely "cash on hand" which caused the project to be scaled back.

If it will be funded with private donations and student segregated fees, why do you need the state to approve the project? From what I've been told, it's as simple as it's a state government building so it has to go through the state's approval process. It'll have to go through this with contractor bids, etc as well so it's still going to be several years before it's built. The only difference is we have the cash already instead of waiting to wait for the state's funds to be distributed. That can extend the process even longer.

This is excellent news. Despite UWM getting shorted by UW Madison when it comes to funding for new facilities especially athletics (true trickle down economics) this is all good. Wish it was original plan but so be it due to our former Governor. Anyway, hoping it does not take literally years as this is looking like a pretty modest addition and the cash is in hand.

I'm hoping that this means that the more intrusive security checks last year are being replaced by these metal detectors. It seemed weird to me that there was no security check with Admirals games last year and that we had to have bags checked, empty pockets, open coats, spin around, etc. to enter Panther games (only at the UWMPA) last year.

Yep, it does say metal detectors. I heard rumor of this in spring. I'm glad it is happening. Sounds like they bought the metal detectors from the Bradley Center. The process should now be faster than the process of people taking everything out of their pockets and lifting your shirt up to see if we have a gun. In order to create a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests, the following safety and security measures are implemented at the Miller High Life Theatre and the UW Milwaukee Panther Arena. Upon entry, all guests will be required to have their bags checked and pass through a metal detector. Metal detectors are an effective method for Event Security to safely screen guests and prevent prohibited items from entering the building. In order to increase the efficiency of these machines, guests are asked to keep the following guidelines in mind when attending an event: • Arrive early in preparation for additional security measures • Limit the number of personal items brought into the venue in order to expedite the screening process • Please reference the prohibited items list for items not allowed into the facilities. Once in the screening area: • Make sure you have your ticket in hand or the ticket app open to your tickets • Prepare for a bag check by Event Security • Place your cell phone, camera and purse in a basket on the screening table and prepare to walk through the metal detector • Guests will be subject to a secondary screening process if the alarm sounds when passing through the walk-through metal detecto • An alternative security screening is available to guests who are: expectant mothers, wheelchair-bound or have a medical condition.

They had to stop the student from bringing in a hip flask of peach schnapps I look forward to having to explain I have a metal plate in my leg every time I go to a game.
