For me it's this simple: don't let the perfect become the enemy of the good. The renaming of the Arena is a GOOD thing. Having the Panther emblem on the facade is a GOOD thing. We're not going to change the official name of the University any time soon, nor are we going to get through to the simple-minded and lazy in the JS's ever withering sports department. Fine. To the general public the Arena is now going to be OUR arena. That's GOOD.

and while were at it, lets all make our own websites and charge our fellow peers to read the content, because this message board isn't "good enough", even though its been around since before i was a freshman in college and has served its purpose well....if you want fans to take the program serious and get engaged in conversation or excitement for the program, why send them in a million different places to get content or use this as a marketing tool for your own work and opinions.... Marquette: MUScoop, InsideTheAl, Marquette Scout, Cracked Sidewalks, Anonymous Eagle, MarquetteWatch (Rivals) Wisconsin: BadgerManiac (Scout), Buckyville, BadgerBlitz (Rivals), Bucky's 5th Quarter, BadgerFans.com, several more If I didn't think this message board was worth anything, I wouldn't post here. As it stands, I'm one of the top posters on here in posts, still. Look, I get it that you don't want to pay for news. Just remember that 90% of PantherU's posts come free of charge, and no one has a gun to your head. Choose to pay, choose to wait, that's up to you. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has chosen not to cover our program besides having a writer and the occasional pre-game feature story (about 3 per season). Local television also does not cover the Milwaukee Panthers any further than a few games a year and the season tip-off luncheon (hey, free food!). Those companies make money for their work. Why should PantherU be any different? It takes time and effort to do what we do. A subscription to the Journal Sentinel is much, much more expensive than a subscription to PantherU. Local TV is free to you, but the amount of television viewers allows them to make enough money to put tons of people on salary. I don't have that traffic, unfortunately. So I'm sorry if you disagree that PantherU should be paid for its work. I completely understand. The market has shown that no one else is going to cover Milwaukee basketball at the level that PantherU does. I'm happy to pick up the slack. Just don't bemoan me for doing what is happening all across the country, because there are plenty of schools that have similar sites - not just high-majors, but mid-majors too. I don't believe it "sends fans in a million places." I think it sends fans in a second. PantherU is where they get their news, the Freak board is where they go for a more robust discussion. I hope that in the near future both boards can have enough traffic that people new to the program will look at them and say "This program is a big enough deal to support two forums." There are several programs in the Horizon League that have had multiple message boards be successful, so it's not like this is me hoping this fan base can aspire to unachievable heights. As for the name, it's pretty obvious that not only do I think the university should have bought the naming rights, it was my idea in the first place: Story from May. I just think getting a 12-syllable name is beyond multiple mouthfuls. UWM Arena would have been a much simpler way of making it the "whole university's" building. I think they're trying to make too many people happy. It may be time to give up on the idea of "Milwaukee" as the name. GhostofDylan and I have been talking about this for a couple months. If that's the case, I'd hope the university commits to UWM and UWM alone to try and make a go at the acronym like UAB. It hasn't worked at all for UIC and many mid-majors, but who knows, it may work for us even though most people outside MKE think that UWM is Madison and many people nationwide think UWM is Western Michigan.

"Hey, free food!"
I'm down! Put me down!
-- signed Michael Hunt
Fundamentally, I agree with Jimmy here.
Whether it's game notes or a book deal, those who chronicle this program (nearly all of whom are UWM graduates) are going to need to be paid.
Much as a graduate from the schools of engineering or education are paid for their work.
This program has a great story to tell. Let those who are qualified tell it professionally.

Really happy about the upgrades. The old video board was massively out of date and the color scheme of the seats always made it feel like it wasn't home. Great job by our people in Athletics and by Frank and his folks too. The suggestion that a building as iconic and useful as the Arena should be torn down is ridiculous when there is more than enough vacant space for a new Bucks venue literally adjacent to the BC.
As Chancellor Mone pointed out, the Arena isn't just for our basketball team -- it has historically hosted our commencement exercises. Now that's going to be even more special and appropriate. And it's our downtown billboard. There are a lot of agendas out there for what might happen downtown. Don't think that they are all friendly or indifferent to our interests. On the contrary.

That new scoreboard will change the game experience for not just Panther fans, but also the Milwaukee Wave. I can't wait for Nov. 6th!

The front signage should be done this week. they had the "ILWAUKEE PANTHER ARENA" up last night, where the US Cellular Logo was.

I heard this summer that the three layers of red lights on top of the roof are being switched to gold lights. I also heard it from a university official. Don't know if that's going to happen this year; it's got to take a fair amount of time to do it, probably take a couple guys a few days to do it. And the bulbs would have had to be made by now. I heard the cost to change the color to gold was surprisingly cheap, like 12k or something like that. So who knows.

I was down there for the Bucks vs Bulls game on Saturday Night. Looked nice, but i agree the red lights would look great gold. The backside of the building, (exposed to front of the Bradley Center), could use some work. The lights were a little burnt out and it didn't look too inviting. A nice panther logo on the side would look great.

I'd even be cool with them getting the "UWM" academic logo big on that side of the building, so everyone going into the BC gets an advertisement for our university. Maybe even alongside a banner or something.

The signs cost a pretty penny. They only have so much to spend.
Having a sign on 4th is a great idea, since one was not there before.

Drove past it on my way to the Courthouse a little while ago. The sign is fully installed on Kilbourn and there are pennant banners as well. Looks good. I agree it would be very nice to have a sign on the State Street facade as well.

those of you that were asking about signage on the 4th and State St corner that faces the BC, there is a banner sign. Not the best looking thing but it's signage where none used to be.

Was told putting up a 3rd sign with lights, is on hold untill UWM knows more about the location for the new Bucks arena. The three line of red lights on top of the arena will be turned off. The red neon lights on the front of the main doors will stay. The cost to replace it is over six figures. All the signage in the food stands and hallways is changed to Panther signage.
