I agree that the team is a little bit thin up front and it would be helpful to add another talented big body, but the Prahl twins are better than you think. They redshirted not because they were completely unprepared for Division 1 basketball, but because the team had a full complement of talented big men that included Tiby, Panoske, Kyle Kelm and Malcolm Moore. When would they have played? Plus, Quinton Gustavson got some key minutes at times.

i would be! last year, it seemed like every time McWhorter was off the court our offense turned into a chaotic mess...get the new guy some D-1 experience before he's asked to take over full time 100% agreed. Even if we pick up a JUCO guard next year, we should have 2 ready to go at all times. 2015-16 is going to be this team's big run. Sent from my SCH-R970 using proboards

As a former coach and college scout I see there is a need for some imagination here. There is no way a freshman point guard is coming off the bench. I hope after all these years Jeter has learned a few things. Cody Wichman is your staring guard with Mcwhorter. The front court is correct. Your rotation off the bench is killer, Springs for Mcwhorter, Lyle for Wichman, White for Arians, The Twins for JJ and Tiby. You have more fouls to give with that second unit after the first unit buries threes. The second unit pounds the ball inside, slashes and goes to the line. It runs and presses. Finally if Studer is on the roster there are even more fouls to give. This could be a dynamic team with its shooting ability and athleticism in the backcourt. I would recruit another big to redshirt or learn, no JUCO.

I don't think Justin Jordan was recruited to redshirt, if that's what you're implying.

The redshirt is one of the most valuable weapons college teams have in the long run.

Starting five to me looks spot on. Not sure either way about back-up point guard with Stamas over Jordan.
Can Evan Richard have a senior season of helping the Panthers on the court for lack of a better term? Most have to be shocked about his playing days at Milwaukee.

Evan is still fighting back issues. Justin is impressing in practice.
Also, I would expect Jevon Lyle to play a big role next year given the way he finished for us last year. There's no way we could have made the tournament run without him stepping up against Detroit at Detroit. For a kid who was on the bench almost the whole year to answer the call like that was fantastic. JR needs a lot of polishing but he is very talented.
While I loved the effort and talent that Paris Gulley and Jordan Aaron brought to us, I am excited about having a roster full of guards who are 6-2 to 6-4. There were too many times two years ago when we got abused because our guards were so small. (In fact, in one game, it was Akeem heaping the abuse!) We may not have a player who can go off offensively this year like JO could, but physically we are going to be able to match up with anybody in the back court. Add in Cody and Trinson at the wing and things look even better.

Agree entirely, as for Evan, great student just some bad luck with injury. Deserved schollie, keeps NCAA happy. Tough luck kid who will represent university well in future.

For the record, the coaching staff has never been shy to telling me about a player injury, and I've only heard once about Evan having back problems, and that was the beginning of his sophomore season.

He played in 15 games last year and scored in 6. Whatever was keeping him at the back of the bench wasn't an injury.

Is anyone else ready for some actual basketball talk? The first day of practice was today and the season's now only six weeks away! I'll stand by this rotation:
First team PG -- Steve McWhorter SG -- Akeem Springs SF -- Austin Arians PF -- Matt Tiby C -- J.J. Panoske
Seven who will play off the bench: SG -- J.R. Lyle SG -- Cody Wichmann SF -- Trinson White PG -- Justin Jordan PF -- Brett Prahl C -- Alex Prahl PF -- Dan Studer

I want the regular season title so bad. I want to also reach "General of the Armies" level jackassery by attending the Horizon League Tournament with a giant white sign with nothing but a black asterisk, and that wouldn't make sense if we don't win the title. Common sense leads me to believe if we win the regular season title, it should still be hosted at the Panther Arena. Just because we can't play in the tournament, shouldn't mean we can't reap the economic benefits of hosting. It will be interesting to see how that situation is handled if it happens. At any rate, your asterisk sign will be even more funny at our arena.

Bracket is already out: hln.s3.amazonaws.com/sports/brackets/2/bracket.pdf?1410196033No way in blue hell would the HL have UWM host the tournament if they aren't in it. Economic benefits of what? UWM would lose money because it would be more costly to staff a tournament that would draw hundreds. And it would automatically mean the league would have to change locations for the Tuesday championship game, meaning more travel for teams, staff, etc. and at a higher cost. Plus, more importantly, why should UWM be "rewarded" for getting themselves banned from postseason? There's a reason why the tournament has its current format.
