Accountability is on the athletics department and the uwm administration for lack of support. Did you read the uwm press release? They had only one employee for all of athletics. Don't try to throw this blame Jeter bullsh*t again. Don't use this as an excuse to fire up that garbage. This is all the administration and the department not giving players the resources they need. And the real issue is the APR system that punishes schools for transfers as well as other bullsh*t reasons. If you listened to some of the locker room videos you see that he gets on his guys about school. Under Jeter our APR has been consistently in the 940s. What was it under Pearl? So don't give me this same BS everything is Jeter's fault. Go pound sand. The problem is we had 3 players transfer in the same year and the system the way it is f***ed us over majorly. APR is the major culprit. But if you need your person to blame at UWM blame the administration first and foremost for not supporting athletics enough. Then the athletics department then there are more people then maybe Jeter. So seriously got off of here with that cr*p. Whoa. I'm not even sure what to say about this. All parties share blame in this, but you're surprised that Rob Jeter, one of the highest paid employees in the entire UW-System, is taking the most heat? Shame on you. Stop giving him a free pass. It's a failure at all levels, especially at head coach of the program.

Under Jeter our APR has been consistently in the 940s. What was it under Pearl? Wrong. Fact: UWM's APR for the last 9 seasons- 2004-05 (Pearl's last year) APR = 939 2005-06 (Jeter's first year) APR = 916 2006-07 = 923 2007-08 = 923 2008-09 = 935 2009-10 = 926 2010-11 = 941 2011-12 = 941 2012-13 = 908 (per UWM) Fact: Other than UIC, we have the worst academic program in our league. Fact: Since 2009-10 (2012-13 not available on the NCAA website) UWGB's APR has ranged from 962 to 971. Without spending time researching athletic budgets, I highly doubt UWGB has significantly more (if at all) resources than UWM. At the same time, UWGB has had more transfers than UWM. (See, www.postcrescent.com/article/20130415/APC0201/304150227/Transfer-rate-high-UW-Green-Bay, and specifically: "During Wardle’s tenure, the transfer rate at UWGB is 25.6 percent. During that period, 10 scholarship players have left. By comparison, Horizon League rival UW-Milwaukee has lost three players in that span.".) This shows that UWGB's student-athletes met APR requirements WHILE AT UWGB. Meanwhile, ours did not. That falls on Jeter.

In all seriousness. I know I'm wishful thinking here but is there anything in jeters contract saying that the buyout is taken away if we have a postseason ban? Just reviewed the contract. There are 2 provisions in play. One requires a one-year extension if the team qualifies for the NCAA Tourney, provided 3 other criteria are met. One of those is to maintain APR so there are no sanctions. So, there is no obligation to extend the contract. I sure as hell hope Braun doesn't extend. This is inexcusable, and completely embarrassing. And, for all that are trying to displace blame on the university for not appealing, etc., stop. Just, stop. This is Jeter's problem that needs to be addressed head on. A 908 APR is pathetic. There needs to be accountability. I agree completely. This is not UCONN, with a LONG streak of NCAA basketball accomplishments. This is a coach with a winning % not much above .500. If he cannot do better than that ON THE COURT AND IN THE CLASSROOM, it is time to move on. Bring back "Bidz", a class act. Also, in reply to other posts, as far as I know, Georgetown had only one academic advisor (Mary Fenlon) during the Hoyas greatest days.

Overall, he has basically been a mediocre coach since coming here and has now apparently can't recruit talent to meet minimum academic requirements. He is responsible for this team! I'll admit that before their run through the tournament, I was ready to say it was time to part ways with him. I figured that after their run, he had probably earned the right to coach through the end of his current contract. After this fiasco, I believe his firing should be back on the table. I don't think you can overestimate how much of a disaster this is!

Coming in to work this morning, I'm hearing people talk and laugh about this, calling UWM a second rate institution who can't even meet minimum requirements for their basketball team.
For those of you who wonder why there are people who go/went to UWM but cheer for other teams like Wisconsin and Marquette, this is a perfect reason why. Things like this drive people away. Why should they invest in the team when the team and school don't seem to care.

Dear Panther Fans:
As I am sure you have heard, we were informed by the NCAA’s Committee on Academic Performance that we were denied our final appeal of a postseason ban for 2014-15 because of past cumulative Academic Performance Rate (APR) scores.
So, what exactly does that mean? The decision means that Milwaukee is not eligible for the Horizon League Tournament or any other postseason competition following the regular season next year.
There is no debating that this is not good news. But, we want to thank you for being part of the Panther family, look forward to your continued support and promise to make next season the best as we pursue the Horizon League regular season championship.
The academic success of our student-athletes will always be the top priority in the Milwaukee athletic department. As I said in the press release yesterday, I am very proud of the steps that we have taken in regards to the APR score. I repeat again that the quality of the student-athletes in our program cannot be stressed enough and we are fully committed to supporting them.
In fact, we have taken numerous steps already to help them in the classroom. The limited academic support staff is no longer an issue, as we have three full-time advisors on staff as of this past fall semester.
We have added a class for all incoming student-athletes to take to help them in their transition to college and began a screening process to identify anyone that may need additional academic help.
We have so much to be proud of and to celebrate from the season that just finished and the NCAA Tournament run that we did enjoy. As was stated yesterday, we are fully confident we have addressed the issues when it comes to the academic performance of our student-athletes.
This isn’t a violation of any NCAA rule. It’s a penalty handed out for the APR score – the same one handed out to UCONN a year ago and look what can happen if the team and fans stick together through all of it. The steps and processes are in place for this to not happen again. And all signs point to this being the case.
We still have a regular-season championship to play for next season and will do everything in our power to make it great.
Go Panthers! Rob Jeter

If people are thinking of us as a second rate institution then it makes our degrees look worse. U either have to go all in with sports are get rid of them. Otherwise you look like a joke and we all suffer because of it.

For Jeter to be your number one person to blame right now is ludicrous. I never said he shouldn't have some of the blame. But the athletic department, the university, the assistant coaches, the previous players, all are to blame. There are people in place at all levels of the university to keep things like this from happening. And all of them failed. Players are supposed to be evaluated academically to make sure they can handle it and see if they need extra help before coming to the school. Also, Like you said, one of the assistants is in charge of talking with professors, etc. But once someone is struggling the athletic department should step in at a certain point. Things should be done. Problems like this one don't just happen overnight. Especially when the two years prior were what they were. The athletic department has been in shambles for almost all of Jeter's career yet its he who gets the brunt of all of your blame.
Jeter is not alone here in this blame game. It seems a good number of you will all find any reason you can to put all athletic faults of the basketball team on his shoulders. Hell sometimes it seems like you blame the guy for everything wrong with athletics with the amount of shots you take at him.
Should we count the Athletic directors since Jeter started? Should we look at how much of a joke the athletic department is? The fact that the basketball team isn't even allowed in the K after 6pm because its a student space? You tell me he is the highest paid guy in the UW-system, I tell you he had to be paid that much so he wouldnt walk away from pure lack of support. This school would have had as many coaches as ADs if they hadn't paid him that money, because they would have come in and not been able to take having to do everything themselves.
I am not saying he is the coach for this team. I am also not saying he should stay or that i want him to stay. I am saying you are all ridiculous for trying to put all the blame and all this athletic program's shortcomings on his shoulders. I know you want somebody to blame, but sometimes its not just one person. Sometimes its on everyone's shoulders. Do i think he should be held accountable? absolutely. Do i think he is responsible for as much of this mess as you are all implying? Not at all. I think it is a result of the turmoil that is the athletic department. But somebody has to fry, and you have all been set on that person for well before this happened.

Regardless of what departmental and university issues may exist, each other sport, and its head coach, has dealt with them. No other sport has the APR problems faced by men's basketball. These are undeniable facts. Rob Jeter is the one who recruited, or directed his assistants (who Rob Jeter hired) to recruit, the players. Rob Jeter is the one who is responsible for his program - the assistants and the players. The company here is UWM Men's Basketball. Its CEO/President's name is Rob Jeter. End. Of. Story. By the way, what does not being allowed into the KC have to do with APR?

You tell me he is the highest paid guy in the UW-system, I tell you he had to be paid that much so he wouldnt walk away from pure lack of support. Sorry, but this is just flat wrong. His current salary relates to the extension provided by Bud Haidet after Jeter's first season. The reason for the extension (and significantly increased salary), resulting in Jeter becoming one of UW Systems' highest paid employees, was so Jeter didn't take the Iowa State job after the 2005-06 season. It has nothing to do with a "lack of support." The reason he hasn't walked away is because no one else has wanted him (turned down by Penn State, Bradley, Miami, among others). In my opinion, he is being grossly overpaid given his performance on, and especially now off, the court.

I think he is being over paid as well. Like i said, my opinion had nothing to do with if i thought he should be our coach or if he should be making what he is. Also my comments about people having a beef with Jeter weren't directed at anyone specifically. It was directed at the people who seem to always be calling for his head.
The post also wasn't just a post about APR. It was about how its impossible to run a successful marquee basketball program when you don't have any support and there is turmoil in the athletics department. I understand most think it is all on him. You say that other sports at the school don't have the problems grade wise. Other sports arent needed to keep athletics at this school afloat financially. Others aren't the main attraction. They aren't on the stage that college basketball is on. And the fact that Jeter is expected to do everything to the level of other D1 school coaches when he has less support from his athletic department than almost all other D1 coaches isn't necessarily fair. Other schools have a a network of competent and constant support. We go through all these ADs and interim ADs and all the mess that has gone along with it and he has held his own and done a fairly decent job with what he has had.
Why isn't the blame on everyone in athletic's shoulders? why is it mostly jeter's? Why do you protect an athletic department that is an absolute mess. Im not saying he is a great coach or that he deserves the money he is making, but he has done a pretty damn serviceable job with so much less than other schools. And i guarantee that with how bad a mess this athletic department is that the coaching situation would have been just as bad if he wasnt here. So i don't care if bud is the reason for the exorbitant contract. I honestly think it saved this program from becoming a complete and utter joke in the turmoil that has followed his retirement.

I am going to change how i am presenting my argument so everyone doesn't just think i am on Jeter's side and that is my only reason for supporting him.
Jeter aside. I think that our athletics department and basketball program would be struggling to do well with just about any coach (that would actually coach at uwm) in jeter's position right now. It might not be for the same reasons, but i feel that anyone else would have just as difficult a time.
Basically, i think that the athletic department and Uwm administration are in such disarray that our basketball program would be experiencing pitfalls of an equivalent or close to equivalent nature regardless of who the coach is. They might do better they might do worse but i think whoever is coaching basketball at this school over the same span Jeter has would be struggling to make good things happen with the current situation

I am not arguing Jeter's success or lack of it. When I projected a 16-15 record I thought Jeter should be retained. I am arguing his mediocre success level with lack of academic achievement. How many NBA players has Jeter coached? If his players are to achieve success in life, they need to have at least acceptable academic performance. Maybe I am being naïve in expecting this. But, players at this level should use their athletic talents to acquire a good education and hopefully a path to success in life. And it is Jeter's RESPONSIBILITY to see that occurs.
I had one cousin who played basketball at Penn State, when they went to the NCAA one year. Another cousin sat on the bench behind Archie Roberts at Columbia. Both had very successful lives. They didn't allow their success or lack of it to inhibit their academic performance.
