Frontier League is fun to watch. The Aviators are in my hometown and we have season tix every year. They let others use the field when they are away, such as certain high school games of importance, summer league tournaments, etc. Wouldn't be out of the question to split use with Milwaukee Baseball. Would actually be smart seeing that revenue for minor league teams fluctuates so much year to year. Any added revenue would be happily accepted.

The university spends $0 in rent at the Hank. That's why we want a place on park land.
I wouldn't be averse to playing our regular season there - season barely coincides with the Frontier League, but the benefit I see is it allows the university to further spread into the rest of the area. Going back to the Cell was in keeping with the university's "manifest destiny" of taking itself to the community. This would certainly be in that spirit.
Personally, this would make attending baseball games a no-brainer for a lifelong southwest side resident. How many people in Franklin, Greendale, Greenfield, West Allis, New Berlin, Hales Corners, Oak Creek and Muskego get to have such a visceral connection to the university as a professional baseball stadium with the college team's games?
What I do know is this: first off, it's unlikely we'd play there because it would cost us rent, something the Hank does not. However, I think it's not the worst idea in the world to have the Panthers kind of "travel" a bit during the season. An annual game at Miller Park? How about a series at Kapco? A series at the Rock? If the Rock gets a FieldTurf surface, we have our early-season home right there.
The truth of the matter is, this looks very poorly on the UWM administration, which has thus far been unable to move on the baseball stadium for its own program - the only D-I team in Wisconsin.

Why does the University not pay rent at the Hank? Would I have to pay rent if I wanted to use it?

Why does the University not pay rent at the Hank? Would I have to pay rent if I wanted to use it? We pay for upgrades and perform the upkeep while we're using it.

It's ridiculous that a private person can build what that guy has done at the Rock, that Concordia College baseball has their stadium, but Milwaukee can't do anything and has to play at a glorified softball park.
I would probably go to every game if Milwaukee played at the Rock. Drive past that place twice a day going to and from work in Franklin.

So many thoughts on this beyond the obvious, only D 1 program in the state , 30,000 students and we play on a high school field...pumped about this season after HL making us pre-season favorites. Kind of agree with Jimmy , in the interim if we could play a game or two at Miller, Kapco and a few here...better than The Hank.
Does beg a couple questions: <Is the mystery million dollar donor still in play? Supposedly all we need is a site.
<Where is MLB or Selig in all this? Sounded like Koonce was on track a few years back and then fell apart . Would be a great legacy for the Commish to spare a couple mil from the $22 mil annual salary he collects to have a field named after him that services both the only D 1 program in WI but also inner city youth. Could even build it in Park East coridor somewhere? Oh well...

Althou I do still think Milwaukee, being a public university, should be able to play in the park that was built with public money the City of Milwaukee already has.

we do have one annual game at Miller, and the horizon league tournament game will be played at Kapco.
The Rock is nice, but its not all about the alumni. what about students? the university doesnt even pay for students to go to the Hank, they definitely will not pay to transport students to Franklin. Players have a deep love for the hank. Its a sh*thole, but its their sh*thole. Honestly the university should look into paying for higher upgrades, like field turf for the Hank.

You know in lieu of a new facility I would be in favor of the following as it is better than doing nothing . Wonder how long "doing nothing" is sustainable, ie, at what point does Doffek get fed up and leave? Anyway, wondering if the following scenario makes sense...
*We get the anonymous donor to provide the $1 mil even if it is not a brand new facility but upgrading The Hank. *Maybe we could get Selig or the Brewers or MLB to donate a similiar amount...then... *Put in field turf at The Hank *Hopefully some money left over to just take away the bleacher and put up a real modest concrete seating area even it still has bleachers on it,,,.maybe 500 -750 seats *A concession stand , ticket booth and a small patio/recreation area for cookouts, tent, etc *Would not need much more if have a concessions, a little better seating, bathrooms , tailgate area as dugouts, bullpen (maybe press box could be upgraded just a bit), are not that bad. Scoreboard not great but ok... If all that could be done there would be several advantages such as a bit better for recruiting, a field turf for our wonderful spring weather, would not pay rent, relatively close to campus vs other proposed alternatives,,,could live with that....Really wonder what people on the discussion board think about that as it looks like nothing beyond that is being pursued unfortunately but if we did this combined with a game or two at Miller Park would be a MAJOR improvement...what is there now is embarassing and pathetic as only D 1 program in State.

One other thing. Maybe based on the location could also be used for inner city youth baseball programs. Maybe that could also generate some sort of additonal funding?

I believe the UW system has a what, $700MM, $800MM surplus right now?
I'm not even saying they give UWM the money.
Just a low or no interest $15MM loan.
