Botham's Panthers in first place. Great win tonight.
Botham has a great freshman class, especially Onson and Edwards. They have some size. I expect 2-3 years of BIG things.
Later, UWMfreak

The UWGB Facebook Group must be in meltdown right now.

OH believe me, they had a big crowd of GB faithful there. They seemed so confident even at half time when we were up by 7. Then the second half started reality came crashing in on them.
It was a great game. Edwards had an awesome 21 RB's. She was a beast in there.
Like the men's team it ain't over yet. The Lady Panthers have a tough game coming up at UIC, (we beat them by 1 here) but the possibility of sending two teams to post season is looking good.
PS Speaking of the men's team, it was fun to watch them mob the women's team after the game. The women really enjoyed it too.

Props to Tom Pipins for having UWM bball the top 2 sports stories of the day. he mentioned how GB was a perennial power and how Sandy Botham's team swept them . the other story was Tigert being named HL Player of the Week and how he's questionable for UIC.

With like 3 minutes left in the game, a little kid ran out onto the court. As soon as his mom grabbed him, Joah said "I have an idea. We gotta rush the court after the game." So, that's what happened. I haven't had so much fun at a women's game in my life.

It was fun to watch. The women work hard too. WTMJ showed film of the game and the "mob" scene at the end.

Later, UWMfreak Actually Onson is a redshirt sophomore... sat out last season after transferring from Boston U. following her freshman year. So glad to see her end up at UWM ... which I thought was the perfect fit for her to begin with. She was such a star in high school on an Oshkosh West team that knew how to win and win and win.

Posted: Mon Feb 13, 2006 11:05 pm Post subject: The women's game tonight- UWM showing some lack of class
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just got back from the women's game tonight and it was definitely a heart breaker and hard to see the women get swept by Milwaukee. I had some thoughts about the game tonight. First- the officiating was terrible. Now, I'm sure that some could look at it as sour grapes considering I am a GB fan. However, if you look at the fact that we shot 7 free throws the whole game and they shot 18- you can see there was a difference in the calls tonight. In the second half alone- GB had 10 fouls called while Milwaukee only had 3 and one of those came in the final 45 seconds. For as many times as I saw our ladies hit the court after being knocked down or pushed out of the way- the refs called NOTHING on Milwaukee. At halftime, Coach Borseth had a long stare down with one of the officials who made a number of questionable calls. Other interesting situation occured in the second half when Milwaukee had moved ahead by 15 points. Coach appeared to be getting into a really heated verbal exchange with some of UW-M's students. I was across the court so I couldn't tell what was going on, but there was definitely alot of shouting going back and forth. The last thing which I think got under my skin was the ending after the buzzer had gone off. Of course, the UWM women's team was jumping up and down as if they had won the NCAA tournament- but approximately ten or so of the UWM men's team stormed the court and began jumping up and down as well with the women's team. Call it sour grapes if you will from a huge GB fan, but I thought that excess celebration was a bit tacky. UWM's women's team already was talking trash up here in Green Bay that our reign as champions was over. History is very much against Botham's teams in the tournament as they have made early exits the past several years. If I were them- I would never get too confident because Borseth and his team are not out of it by any stretch.

UWGB has a message board? Did it combine with Cleveland State's board so they wouldn't die of loneliness?

here's the first whine on GB's pathetic Facebook group:
"Anyone else notice that GB had over 10 fouls at Milwaukee and the home team only had 3. I'm pretty sure that shows the reason why GB didn't even have a chance when the other team had 8 players on the floor. We all know the truth will be told during tournament time."
i knew it would always suck to live in GB and tonight would be even worse.

Ahh, the age-old "lack of class" ... This is coming from UWGB fans whose women's coach 1 or 2 years ago piss-and-moaned after his team was upset by Wright State ... on how crappy the HL teams were in non-conference and other conference games against each other, yet always got up to play UWGB and how that loss hurt UWGB's NCAA profile. Well if Wright State was so crappy, your team should've won handily Borseth. Lost pretty much all respect for that douche after reading that story. And now that UWGB fans are complaining about the lack of fouls ... have they not been watching for the past 10 years and the lack of foul calls on UWGB??

I can't post there and don't care to but...
1) The refs called more fouls on us in the first half then on them 2) The refs didn't call much at all really. There were calls that could have been made on BOTH teams that weren't. 3) They started calling fouls on GB after we went ahead by 12 or so. The Phoenix were getting desperate and pushing too hard and grabbing too much. 4) Yes some of their players were on the floor and there wasn't any call. Some of ours were on the floor and didn't get a call either. 5) The celebration was warranted. They should look at that as a mark of respect for their program just as we looked at the Butler students rushing the floor after they beat us as a sign of respect.
PS Good job whoever the students that got under their coach's skin are.
