Jimmy, you're better than that. So because James Wright may not have liked Tom Diener, Showalter wouldn't make a good college coach? What type of linear thinking is that? It's relevant when you're talking about Milwaukee youths who are considering where they want to go to college.

Why would anyone want to replace Jeter? Keep Jeter and fire all the assistants!

Of course I prefer that style of play. But you know what I want the most? A coach who can do better than 139-152 against D1 opponents in his career. I want a winner. That's a legitimate desire. I just can't understand why you would even suggest hiring a high school coach for a D1 program if that's what you want. As for Jimmy's argument about admissions standards, all I can say is that coming off an APR ban it doesn't strike me that now is the right time to try to bring in less qualified student athletes. I am honestly not too worried about recruiting if we secure the Arena and firm up plans for a new practice facility. That would solve, finally, a generations old problem that has been a severe inhibitor against recruiting. Get those things in place and we will be arguably the most attractive member of the Horizon League. And by the way, our facilities issues were not unrelated to our APR problem.

A name I haven't heard mentioned is TJ Otzelberger......Milwaukee guy, went to high school to Thomas More, played basketball at UW Whitewater, assistant at Iowa State under McDermott and top assistant under Hoiberg, worked with and recruited multiple NBA guys....now the top assistant at University of Washington under Romar. He is young, very energetic, loves Milwaukee, and has strong recruiting ties all over the Midwest and the west coast. He is proven his worth at the college level and has the kind of fire and enthusiasm UWM needs - I know he has been in the running/turned down multiple D1 head offers in search of the right fit for himself and his family. Could be a win/win for both sides...

I think that it would certainly be worthwhile to talk to T.J., much as I think it would be worthwhile to talk to Pat Miller, Drew Diener, Bob Semling, Gary Grzesk and Steve Showalter.

I'm not sure I'd want Steve Showalter walking in the door, let alone having as much as semi-serious discussions about a coaching vacancy. The five names - Grzesk, Semling, Diener, Miller and Otzelberger - all are eons ahead of a cop who gets city kids to come out and run the North Shore.

We get it. You don't like Showalter.
The guy has lost, what, five games in eight seasons?
Maybe Steve merely thought that his former players wouldn't reach their potential under Jeter.
I think UWM owes it to itself to talk to him.

Great to see many familiar handles again. I am back to paying attention just to see how this season ends. We could be surprised. -Ghostoffreak'sghost

Two more ideas, Reece Gaines is drawing raves in Louisville at Bellarmine. Stan. Gouard at Indianapolis who played for Bruce Pearl is doing a nice job. One of his assistants is A Purdue grad Travis Carroll who can coach big men. Braun should require Jeter to bring someone in to coach the bigs. It is his greatest weakness. Since our bigs cannot shoot the three like Bo's boys they need to post up, learn to play low. Jeter has two years, the Prahl twins are smart and ready. Tiby and JJ are back. Keep these guys where they belong, down low or at the free throw line, the high post.

We'll continue to go round and round on some of this stuff, especially the vital importance of The Arena.
In respect to Tiby, please don't take the 3-point shot away from him. He's shooting 30.6 percent.
Horrible, you say! Well, the team is shooting a collective 31 percent for the year.
So I would suggest that the problem isn't so much big-man shooting and shot selection as much as it's team-wide shooting and shot selection ... and that's mostly been the case for as long as Jeter's been the coach.
