Ok... So with the schedule now out and things taking shape, we (the SBGC) are really intrigued by the opportunity to travel to many games this year. We would love to try to get at least 4 students to every in conference road game this year.
We're already planning on asking the SA for two buses (one bus for two games) again this year. We can also ask the Athletic Department for busing to maybe one or two games as well (last year we just had to prove to them that enough students wanted to go).
Say we get four buses... the most logical games we'd bus to would be Green Bay, UIC, Loyola and Valpo. That would mean driving to Detroit and Wright State (during break, Jan. 3 & 5) and making a mini vacation out of it (staying in a hotel for 2 nights). It would also mean driving to YSU and CSU. Now, I made that trip to watch the team clinch the HL Title two years ago and it was worth it. We play at YSU on Fri, Feb 15 and CSU on Sun, Feb 17. It's a very doable trip, and again, we would stay two nights in a hotel.
We also plan to carpool as many as we can for non-conference road games to UNI, DePaul, Wisconsin and possibly the BracketBuster Game if it's close.
It would be great to get at least four students to travel to all road games (especially the one's that are longer trips) to show our support. If we can get more than 4... even better. The trip becomes very feasible when you split it 4+ ways.
We still have time to brainstorm and see how many fans we can get on board, but the quicker we act, the better, so we can get into the planning stages of traveling for road games.

I am very interested. I know I want to do the UNI, DePaul and Wisconsin games for sure. I would also like to knock off the Horizon League locations I haven't been to yet - Valpo, Detroit, Wright State, Cleveland State and Youngstown State.

I only need to get to Detroit and Cleveland to say I've been to all Horizon League locations. I plan on getting to both places this year.

I really want to go to as many of those games as possible. I am in for all of them unless things come up for a few. But i will try to get to as many of them as i can. So count me in. I love traveling to away games.

WSU and YSU are the games I've missed out on.

CSU/YSU Trip (First Draft of the detailed trip) We'd like to stay in Downtown Cleveland for two nights. We'd drive to YSU Friday Morning (EARLY! 5am ish) Feb. 15th (drop off luggage/check-in in Cleveland (90 mins from YSU)) and proceed to the game in Youngstown. Drive back to Cleveland after the game and spend 2 nights (Friday and Saturday, the 15th and 16th) there.
Sunday, the Panthers will more than likely have a 1pm or 2pm EST game. After the game we'd head back to Milwaukee and be home by midnight or so.
Cost: By splitting up the cost, we can stay in a nice downtown hotel. In one of Cleveland's nicer hotels, the cost would be a little over $100 a night. Splitting it four ways (4 to a room) makes the cost $50 per person for the hotel stay. In addition, a gas fee would be $50 round trip or so per person. A toll fee around $10-$15 because tolls are ridiculous, but they are the fastest way to get from point A to point B. Then there is the separate cost of food (figure in another $30... more if we want to try one of Cleveland's nicer restaurants). In total, the cost would be about $150-$175 per person for the entire weekend. There are cheaper options, but if we're going to go all out and really take in the experience, I feel like $175 isn't asking too much for a three day, two night trip
Tickets: Free! I can get our names on the team list. That won't be a problem.
Vehicle: I can try, but there is no guarantee I can get my parents van, so if anyone else has a vehicle that can legally fit 6 people plus luggage would be great. Yes, that means two of us would be paying more for hotel. I would like to get at least 6 students on the trip and I don't mind paying more for my hotel room, so don't worry about being asked to pay more than expected.
Questions? Concerns? Thoughts? Let me know if you're interested!
I figured that I'd bring up this trip before the Detroit/WSU trip because this is during the semester and the Det/WSU trip is during break. That trip will be brought up soon too.
Side Note.... Canton, Ohio is where the Pro Football Hall of Fame is, and I would love to stop there on that Saturday. I haven't been in almost 10 years. Hopefully we can all agree to stop there and visit. The cost is $13 with school ID (student discount) and $21 for adults. Basically, just add another $20 to cost of trip, bumping the cost closer to $200 per person.
I figure $200 is on the safe/high end.

I have been told that current students willing to make the long trips to YSU, CSU, UDM and WSU can stay in the same hotel as the team and be given the same rate the team receives as well.

As someone who has followed the program across the midwest, I can tell you that the kinds of hotels they stay in might still be a pretty penny for students, even with the group rate.

The rates actually aren't that bad. It would still only be $25-$30 a night per person if we still stick to 4 to a room. That was the price already figured into the total cost of the YSU-CSU trip. Of course, we can always stay somewhere else. It's just another option to consider at this time.
