Congrats to Coleman. 9 season as an assistant at UWM- 3 fulltime. He even played at UWM. I think he'll do great.

The Post will be running a short article in the first issue of the semester.
If we had a possible interview with Coleman in the following issue, how many of you would be interested in reading it?

I would if some questions such as:
-Is the team going to keep all the current players or are any going to transfer (especially if it is to MU) -How he plans to keep the team competitive -Things he has learned from Bennett
are answered.
Either way I'll read it since I read the post every Wednesday between my sections I teach.

Thanks Teddy, if we can get an interview, I'll definitely make sure whichever writer covers it gets those Q's in.

I would be very interested in an interview, particularily if recruiting has been hampered at all, and if any players plan to transfer to marquette. I'll be checking the post.

this kind of blows. I got scheduled all weekend to work, so I will not be interviewing Coleman. Instead, another writer, Claasen, will be doing it.
Possible he won't, because he was supposed to write the straight up coverage of the hire last week, missed it, and I ended up doing it.
I forwarded the Q's to him, hope he got them.

THURSDAY, March 9, 2006, 3:28 p.m. By Charles F. Gardner Spielmann accepts UWM job Bob Spielmann, who won 20 state soccer championships at Milwaukee Marquette during a storied tenure that began in 1979, has been hired as associate head coach at UW-Milwaukee, according to UWM sources. The university approved the contract several weeks ago, and it received final approval on Thursday from the academic affairs department of the University of Wisconsin system. It is expected a formal announcement of Spielmann's hiring will be made on Friday. Spielmann will join a staff led by newly hired head coach Jon Coleman. Also being added to the staff is assistant coach Chris Dadaian, who was a goalkeeper for the Panthers from 1999-2002. www.jsonline.com/watch/?watch=2&date=3/9/2006&id=3514

SOLID moves ... I hope the administration continues to help make UWM become a potential power on the national scale in soccer. It's very, very possible.

It will be interesting to see if any players transfer, but IMO knowbody will since Coleman was the guy that recuited most of them.

I talked to a guy who used to play for UWM who still regularly talks with the players. I guess the players are really pissed off about Bennett leaving, and it seems like none of them want to transfer to Marquette because of that. I'm sure the hiring of solid Milwaukee area coaches will only further work to keep them here.
Basically, keep in mind that in this case, UWM has the history, not Marquette.

Going to Nathan Hale, we always fielded teams that were state and occasionally nationally ranked. The Dombrowski family of UWM, freshmen Adam Stikl and Steve Hennessy at UWGB, and Phil Weber at Drake all are part of the Hale soccer tradition.
However, as long as I can remember, Hale could never usurp Marquette as the premier team in the Greater Metro Conference (By far the best boys soccer conference in the state). To get Marquette's coach Spielmann is a BIG thing, especially in recruiting players in the area. Although we have made our mark with out of state players like Tony Sanneh and Antou Jallow, area players really do their part with the Panthers.
This is a big step to ensuring Bennett will not beat Coleman in the upcoming Recruiting Wars. Keep an eye on where area recruits go in the upcoming months and years.
