New Mexico State wins the 2nd game of the doubleheader and the last game of the series 16-8. Milwaukee and NMSU split the series 2-2. Not too bad of an opening weekend for the Panthers.
Next up - at the Miami Hurricanes next weekend !

Huge series next weekend. This will be big for our team. This season will be a fun one. A 2-2 split is all I could ask for as a team going from the Klotsche and translating that to the field.

I thought he highlighted the upcoming weekend and then was appreciative of their 2-2 start right out of the gym. Haha

Check out story on Jake Long in today's JS....another great story and appreciate the coverage. This baseball program continues to shine without any kind of decent facilities or support. What Augustine and now Doffek have done is almost heroic IMO. Only D-1 program in state and knocked off #1 team in nation in first round of NCAA a number of years ago plus had a FIRST TEAM D-1 All American, Mike Goetz, who led nation in Batting with very little publicity or recognition!!! These guys play an excellent brand of baseball and represent us well. So here goes again...
MLB Commissioners office is here. Bud Selig is Mr Milwaukee and Mr Baseball and incidentally earns $22 million a year. Articles in newspaper about poor athletic fields. There is a MLB baseball program to participate in funding with local university in freakin CHICAGO!!! Where is Selig's office?? We are only D 1 program and have a huge need. Again, there is a MLB program right under Bud's nose and even if that did not fund 10% of his annual salary would and it could be named Bud Selig field, In addition his protege, Henry Aaron, has a field named after him that is a disgrace to his legacy. UWM needs to work with MLB, hello Bud?? and build a facility they can use and share with inner city youth in particular. Supposedly Geiger had this well down the road after UWM let it fall off the radar after Koonce left. This seems so obvious!!!

Wasn't on Geiger's radar until it was brought up in a conversation about how UIC was funding their program. He then thought it would be a good idea to pursue. I stood right there and put my hands over my face in disbelief.

Not suprised,,, suspected as much... this guy was either a con man putting in the minimum effort for a year collecting a big hunk of money (like we could afford that with our deficit) but hey, his dad grew up near campus...well, Golda Meir did too but she was never a cheerleadeer....anyway, or else he totally lost his fastball (pardon the pun) . Hopefully the latter as it least it was not intentional , did see him fall asleep in the stands at an event, true story..

My hunch is that he would much prefer to funnel any resources to that baseball program, if it existed. That is, if he could remember the combination to his wallet.

Crazy double play to end the game this afternoon stops a UIC rally from tieing the game vs. the Panthers after Milwaukee had taken a 5-2 lead into the 9th inning.
So Milwaukee sweeps UIC to improve to 18-16 overall, 11-4 in the Horizon League. Up 4 games on 2nd place with 6 to go (maybe 9 should they need to reschedule the Wright State series).

This program, which still plays in the Sanford Salvage Yard, continues to amaze.
