No good that he is visiting Pepperdine. That campus is ridiculous and near the ocean I believe. Come on FTA: we have Lake Michigan in Milwaukee--it's water as far as the eye can see.

can anyone give a brief scouting report on Austin? Well he's white so he's gritty and gutty, high bball IQ, coaches son (maybe?), high energy guy, and has lots of intangibles. Feel free to add any white athlete cliches I may have missed.

No good that he is visiting Pepperdine. That campus is ridiculous and near the ocean I believe. To be fair, a lot of athletes take visits just for the sake of visiting. Hell if I was being recruited by Hawaii, you better believe I'd take a Christmas break official visit even if I had zero intention of signing with them.

Austin plans to study business at UWM. Meanwhile, all but four players on Marquette's team are majoring in communications.

I don't know where you are going on this one, but if you are taking my term "he used his pen" as a cut on Austin, it mean it's official he signed with the Panthers. As you use a ink pen to sign something official.

i'm guessing it was a gratuitous swipe at MU(tm) rather than a comment on your word choice, MUPanther.

There's a small clip of Austin on Channel3000.com in their Prep Mania section. Click the Madison Edgewood and Monroe link. I got to see the last quarter of the game and he looks to have some nice bb instincts.

Tony Meier, James Haarsma, Evan Richard, Adrian Tigert, Paige Paulsen, Dylan Paige, James Eayrs, et all strongly disagree with that generalized and racist scouting report.
Evan has bigger hops than Ryan Allen- what does that say about "well he's not athletic (recruiting code word for a black athlete), so.... hopefully he can shoot"?.
You can't pin a kid's ability or potential simply based on his race. That's ridiculous. I understand there are probably statistics that would support 6'1" white guys having very little chance of being "athletic" and tearing down rims like Evan eventually will. But c'mon- they are all just human college kids.
But you can't just take the bait and run with a generalization... every so often... a kid like Evan (or Tony Meier- who can also dunk and bang in the paint but prefers sticking to his specialties...), throws a big outlier into popular thinking...
No need to bring out the white/black card. We've got good players/recruits- PERIOD.

And I understand what Pantherholic is saying... but it just isn't as true and open/shut case as so many try to make it seem. I've seen nonathletic kids of all types. And I've seen shorter white kids who are good above the rim but can't shoot for sh*t. They are just humans. Different shades/stripes, same heartbeat.

I apologize Pantherholic, I didn't catch the drift right away, just went off ghola's quote. We've got damn good players and good recruits- PERIOD. To potential recruits- whether you can dribble, pass, slash, shoot, score, whatever- if you are a High D-I caliber quality player, Milwaukee would love to have you play here. And I hear the East Side university experience (learning professional life skills all the while of course.. ) ain't too shabby. Big welcome to Austin- he could very well be a huge piece of the puzzle in the next 4 years.

I had a chance to see Austin Arians play last night against Fort Atkinson. I think he had 20 or more points (I got sick of keeping track after a while). Most of those points came in the first half as Edgewood surged ahead. Perhaps it was Fort's zone that caused it, but Austin mainly shot jumpers last night. The corner 3 is definitely his favorite spot. He has a nice looking shot, although it's still a bit inconsistent at this point, even in warm-ups. He didn't really showcase his much-touted athleticism and got rejected two of the three times he drove to the basket. I was impressed by his build, though. He already looks like he's had a year or two of college weightlifting under his belt at this point. Conclusion: Hard to tell after just one game. This game didn't get me overly excited, but I feel like I only saw a small part of his ability.
