I wasn't referring to students. And I'd like to remind people about keeping things I tell them to themselves.

Who isn't on the arena train? People who are against moving games to campus. I think the people who are worried about moving back to campus, they are worried about the parking issue. How can't anyone love a new building.

It's not like parking is ideal right now, anyway. Especially when they are going up against the Bucks, Marquette, or Admirals across the street. Sure, you can find parking ... at $15 a pop.

A bad season is over at last, certainly. They shot extremely poorly in the first half, and turnovers stopped them short whenever they made a good run to close the gap.
Valpo had seven players available, and they outplayed the Panthers, whose best player (A Rod) was hobbled by an ankle injury.
Botham sounded like a broken record: inexperience, etc. etc.
i wish i could say that the team progressed throughout the season, but i can't. They had stretches when they played quite well, but they had more stretches when they played very badly.
After winning their last two home games, they had a chance, with at least one win last weekend, to move up in the seeding. A Rod's injury was too much to overcome, and the Panthers lost to UIC and Loyola, and finished as the eighth seed. The only bright side to the situation i can see at the moment is that they were spared the indignity of losing to Green Bay by 30+ points (again) in the second round of the tournament.

The women's team has been in free-fall since 07, I think Sandy has maybe 1 year left with us. A make-it or break-it season.

The women's team has been in free-fall since 07, I think Sandy has maybe 1 year left with us. A make-it or break-it season. Next year's team should have returning:
- Three Seniors: Danielle Jorgenson, Sammy Theut, Sami Tucker
- Five Juniors: Kimee Chandler, Emily Decorah, Courtney Lindfors, Allie Pfeffer, Angela Rodriguez, and
- Five Sophomores: Macie Dorow, Ashley Green, Janna Swopshire, Jasmine Swopshire, and Kiki Wilson
One senior on this years roster will graduate: Alex Klawitter. i don't know if that means the Panthers have only one scholarship to offer, and who they are going after to fill it if that is the case.
i think you've got a pretty good argument that Coach Botham will be given one more chance. She won't be able to plead extreme youth as an excuse if the 2012-13 squad doesn't make a substantial improvement.
The starting lineup she used most of the season should be back. You have to like a starting lineup which includes A Rod and Ashley Green. Sami Tucker is capable of carrying the team if needed.
Courtney Lindfors was on and off. When she was on, she was a real force inside, on both ends of the floor. Coach Botham, having played center herself in college, prefers a strong inside game and has had a hand in developing two all-league players, Maria Viall and Traci Edwards. Getting more consistency out of Lindfors will also be a big step forward for next year's squad. Having Danielle Jorgenson again should help a good deal. If memory serves, Jorgenson has a nice short-range jumper in her arsenal in addition to her low-post skills.
Emily Decorah was counted on to make a major contribution this year, but was lost due to injury. If she makes it back and contributes at the level expected, that can only help.
It has been said that college athletes often make the largest improvements between their freshmen and sophomore seasons. That also bodes well for next year's squad. Janna Swopshire got regular minutes this season. She appears to be more comfortable playing away from the basket. Kiki Wilson set the freshman season assists record, but she made a lot of turnovers as well, and turnovers at key times in games were a thorn in the Panthers' side all season. Improvement by reducing turnovers will be key to next season.
i don't know Rick Costello personally, so i don't know whether or not he will see things as you do. i think a good case could also be made for a coaching change, so i won't be terribly surprised either way.
Edit: as i was signing out after making this post, i noticed that the "newest member" of the board was "firesandy." Heh.

Don't think UWM is in position to buy out a $120,000 salary for a women's coach ... so if she has one more year, she has one more year to right the ship.

I am not sure that contract is structured the same as in men's basketball.
