I could see Butler leaving for the A-10, Butler and schools like Dayton are very similar. Then again, if the HL continues to be competitive and makes some media deals, I could see schools like St. Louis, Dayton, or Xavier moving.

The Horizon League should make a concerted effort to force Youngstown out and replace them with an Oakland, Saint Louis, or Dayton. Oakland and Dayton make the most sense with their natural regional rivalries. The Horizon League just shouldn't be satisfied with being a one or even a two-bid conference.

Xavier, Dayton and St. Louis was once in the Horizon League. (MCC)
Conf. USA has all D1A or FBS teams in their league and the teams come from the south.
The A-10 stinks when it comes to travel. I know St.Louis doesn't like being in the A-10 and wants to go to the MVC, to cut down on travel.

There's no obvious place for Butler to go. CUSA is a football league. The A10 offers a step up in basketball competitiveness and tournament opportunities, but creates tremendous pressure on finances because it's so absurdly spread out and has no football revenue to share. Remember, you have to get the women's soccer team from St. Louis to Rhode Island, too. The Big East is overbloated already, and not interested in any team that doesn't bring football. Butler's only hope to move to a different league (IF they wanted to, which I sincerely doubt) is that the BE splits apart and the BB schools form their own league.
Fundamentally, Butler's limitation conference-wise is its size. It's about a 5,000 student school. For heaven's sake, coming off the greatest season in mid-major history, and playing in an iconic arena in a major US city in a basketball mad state, it didn't come close to filling its seats at home games.
I certainly don't expect Brad Stevens to leave this year. But he WILL be the IU coach, sooner or later.

I think Butler is proving right now that the Horizon League is more than enough.

There are several "highmajor" programs that are comparable size of Butler. Wake Forest and Providence are just two.
When Butler does end up leaving, it won't be for a league with a current configuration. Most likely it would have parts of the Big East, A10, and and a handful of random others.
Hell, Marquette could very well end up in it.

Maybe a private non-football conference made up of schools like Butler, Depaul, Marquette, St. Louis, Dayton, and Xavier?

Conference shake-up is coming, and football is the driver. This is why I'm getting in everyone's face about setting us up long term, make ourselves more attractive. It could be ten years down the road, and ten years is a long time to get ready.
Hell, the perfect example is UTSA. They set up football, starting this fall, and eventually planned to join the Sun Belt some 5 years from now after moving up from I-AA. Now, with this last conference shake-up, the Roadrunners parlayed that into a position in the WAC. It's not the WAC of last season, but it's still a better conference than the SOUTHLAND.
Butler's basketball program is setting up the university to be added to whatever basketball conference comes out of the broken up Big East.
Our basketball program hasn't, and even if we were to break through and get to a Final Four, our facilities situation is as decrepit as a low-major and we wouldn't be invited.

I think you are underrating our facilities. While not the finest they are no where near "decrepit."

Here's the content of Brad's text message, recently procured:
"Cindy, I just moments ago disembarked from the arena and am currently standing in an area where the sound of gunfire encircles me. Not to worry, though, as I've already talked several madmen out of the trees and alleys around me.
"There are also innumerable rabid dogs here, but I've subdued them by explaining to them that their threatening behavior isn't appropriate for the circumstances and that it would be best for them if they struck a more selfless, self-sacrificing demeanor as we do at Butler.
"Two fine fellows have just offered me a ride out of this dilapidated milieu, but I think it would be best if I waited until alternate transportation arrives, as this well-intentioned carriage may in fact be in conflict with NCAA regulations.
"Until we meet again, adieu, au revoir, auf Wiedersehen and goodnight."
