writehooks and I are planning on developing a website for UWM athletics fans. We have the general idea of what we want to do, and we know what our general aims are. Take a look at our brainstorming for this website.
Aims:
- To provide the UWM fan with information on upcoming events
- To be a content driven website
- To provide the prospective UWM student with information on how to get involved in athletics
- To provide the prospective student-athlete with the information that will convince them to pick UWM, regardless of sport.
Interactive ideas:
- Message board (just link to this one, obviously, since it's so well done)
- Live chat rooms (Chat during HLN games or organize chats with players and coaches)
- E-mail provider (jlemke@name.com)
- Fan blogs (victorpanther, we plan on bringing yours in as a feature blog)
Content ideas: (not all of them -- the list is rather long):
Downloads (desktop wallpaper, screensavers, etc.)
Recruiting news
Fan photo submission center (We want pictures of you in UWM gear! [UWM Today has a section like this with Panthers all over the world])
Panther hotties (tell me that won't draw students and fans in)
History of the Cell (description)
Coach bios
Player bios (beyond the usual stats)
Online Shop (we've already begun developing this, by launch it will be stacked with website merchandise and panther gear [obviously respecting copyrights])
Game photo galleries
Stat of the Day/Week
Quote of the game
Rivalries: Why do we hate _______
Schedules
Top 10 lists (we can go forever with these)
Awards for Panther athletes (weekly, monthly, and annually)
Then we get into the really fun stuff. This is the content that we're starting to plan for development.
Video section. The videos for our website will give Panther fans an inside look at the goings on of the teams, as well as psyche students and fans up to go to the games. They'll put life at UWM on the map, as well as showcase certain aspects of athletics at UWM. Some of the videos we'd like to make:
Meet coach Jeter (short interview, background)
Meet the Panthers (same, for each player)
The Klotsche Krazies (why the name, effect on the game as told by Jeter and team)
Tour the Pavilion (Check out our facilities)
History of the Cell (Bucks championship thru 80s, Austin 3:16, AT's Free Throws, 2003 Title game, etc.)
Engelmann Field (The greatest home field advantage in college soccer)
Traditions at UWM (We're starting a few of these, so we're gonna use the website as a promotional tool for them)
Meet the broadcast team (Daron and Jason)
Highlight videos for each player
Pep Band videos
Klotsche Krazies chants (What they are, how to do them, Jump On It, etc.)
Audio. We figure, since I'm already doing podcasts on the Post website, and fans like doing it, we can have on demand podcasts and other things on the website. Interviews with coaches, players, and whatever else we can hack up.

Basically, we've got all of the hardware and software to make sure this happens (video editing, audio recorder, video cameras, photoshop, etc.) and we have the funds to launch this website.
What we're looking for is a couple things. #1, we're looking for support. When this website happens, we want to boost the hit count dramatically right away, so we can start charging for ads and make money. All of the money we make will go to producing content on the site, and excess money will be spent on events that boost school spirit (i.e. the boxer run we're planning)
#2, we're looking for ideas. If there is something that is a must or a nice addition that you would like, reply to this thread. If you think there's a better way to do things, go ahead and let us know.
Please, help us out any way you can. We want to have this launched by the end of the summer, so we should have enough time. If you have any experience in building websites, we could use some help there as well. We want this site to look professional, and we'd appreciate it if we didn't have to spend the entire summer just learning website code.
Thanks for your support, let's make this happen.
