That is absolutely nuts. And the fact that it is 5th largest HS stadium in texas. I wonder how many of those larger schools have more than one team play there.

And I agree that UWM and Milwaukee need to stop being used interchangeably. I'm surprised that the University doesn't have stronger guidelines for this (and if they actually exist, why they're not being followed). When the new University logo was adopted (when Nancy Zimpher was Chancellor, IiRC), there were detailed guidelines developed about the proper use of the logo on signs, letterhead, etc.
i'm not aware of any similar policies about the name of the university, but that doesn't mean that there are none. The office of University Relations and Communications would probably be responsible for any policies that do exist.

And I agree that UWM and Milwaukee need to stop being used interchangeably. I'm surprised that the University doesn't have stronger guidelines for this (and if they actually exist, why they're not being followed). The reason they keep being used interchangeably is because "Milwaukee" is kind of a mouthful and "UWM," despite having more syllables, rolls off the tongue easier. Green Bay (for example) has an advantage here since "GB" was already a well-known local reference to the university even before they dropped the "UW" from their sports branding. I've suggested "U-Mil" for us in the past. Of course, if we just branded the ourselves academically as "University of Milwaukee," we could use "U of M" without any confusion. On a sidenote, this article from Richmond, Virginia "mistakenly" referred to us as the University of Milwaukee... awesome! ;D www.richmond-news.com/sports/Milwaukee+school+next+chapter+Richmond+soccer+standout/6881138/story.html

That would be kinda cool if it was UM. Then there would be UM on the east side of the river and MU o the west side. Haha. Sorry, I am easily amused. And i know what you mean. Its hard to get out of the habit of using UW-Milwaukee and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee when UWM seems to roll of the tongue better than anything else that has been thought of. There is something about three letter abbreviations that just work so well. And the only other three letter abbrev. that i can think of is one that is already used sometimes, MKE. But i am not the biggest fan of that fr some reason. Maybe its because traditionally three letter abbrev. are shortened versions of three words and not a single word. Also, i cant get my brain to accept u-mil. Idk why but it just isnt visually appealing to me. Hopefully someone will eventually have an epiphany and think of the perfect solution.

Well, Alabama has UA and AU, but I still think I'd prefer "U of M" for the obvious reason of being more distinguished from similarly-initialed school across town, and because it just easier both vocally and aurally to transition from UWM to U of M. Say a sentence using "UWM," then repeat the same sentence using "UM" and again using "U of M." The latter (to me anyway) feels much more natural.
But I have to say, I like "MILWAUKEE PROUD. PANTHER STRONG." for a battle cry the more I look at it. It really does emphasize the strong points of our identity... or at least as strong of points as our identity can be said to have. ;D

Store Link: Two weeks leftPanther football is doing their spring clothing order. Even if you're not into club sports, some of these items look just outstanding for any Panther fan out there. Not only that, because this is a bulk order all this stuff is $20-30 cheaper than it would be in the bookstore as official clothing. If nothing else, let's give Illwauk a huge round of applause for making a logo that looks so damn good on clothing.

Hello everyone! Just to let everyone in this forum know... there is football at UW-Milwaukee. This fall UWM will be playing in the National Club Football Association. I know this is just a forum but.. if we could spread the word around UWM and Milwaukee that football does exist that would be amazing! Even though this is the club level, packing the stands at the University School of Milwaukee during home games this season could bring the realization to UWM and Milwaukee that we deserve a collegiate level program. This city needs a team to support. Milwaukee has always been a hoops town and don't get me wrong it's great but, Milwaukee also loves their football. Imagine packing the stands and the field with UWM and Milwaukee citizens and making a revolution happen in Milwaukee.
