Black shirts don't show up on TV other than looking like no one is there.

I like the idea of the black shirt. Its fun to think about. However, the fact is that it doesn't work.

Buy the gowns already. They'd be even better with some fun wigs and/or fake mustaches.

The gowns barely make sense to be perfectly honest. I would like to see those casual fan's faces, who barely want to show up anyway, when you tell them they have to put a gown on. I just floated the idea past some of my roommates who are also regular attendees and they scoffed. I just can't see myself wearing one
Also your first post is a little confusing fan, why wouldn't it work. Is it the whole it looks like no one is there?
With all that being said I don't even know if I like the black t-shirt idea really I was just throwing it out there. I am almost positive the idea of a blackout will increase the casual fan attendance.
Anyway, how do you feel about the the vertical stripe shirt that's actually my favorite at the moment.

No one is going to make them put on the gown. If they want to be excluded and not support the cause thats cool. There will be some people that refuse to cooperate no matter what.
This gives students license to get as kR@zY (or drunk) as they want. Creativity with costumes would only push the idea.

Black t-shirts have already been done at UWM and it looked like no one was there each time during the Pearl years when there were more butts in the seats.

The gowns barely make sense to be perfectly honest. I would like to see those casual fan's faces, who barely want to show up anyway, when you tell them they have to put a gown on. I just floated the idea past some of my roommates who are also regular attendees and they scoffed. I just can't see myself wearing one I don't think you tell anyone what they have to wear. If you get 4-5 guys in the front row who are leaders doing it, others will follow. You don't tell everyone they HAVE to wear a black shirt either. You can give them out and allow them to wear it. I'd prefer that they want to wear it bc they look like a dumb@ss not wearing one in a sea of 70 other students who are wearing one. You didn't flat out ask this, but I think you want me to answer it: "Why is wearing the gowns a good idea?" 1. inexpensive. If you want a united look, its a TON easier if you have something that people either don't have to buy at all or only have to pay a dollar for. 2. Unique and distinct. (Most important) Who does this? Even if no one knew our arena name or knew our fan club group name, these would still be recognizable by ESPNU and conference foes. Someone would undoubtedly be like "wtf? there are 70 kids wearing hospital gowns over there yelling their *sses off. I wonder why they are wearing gowns?" It takes 1 announcer to ask and one student to answer. Bam. People who are watching, visiting, or listening on the radio know not only why we are wearing gowns, they know that there is a group of fans called the Klotsche Krazies. If they know that there is a group, then people want to be a part of the group. Getting a consistent pack of students together is our aim. (Right?) 3. Applicable. Stadium name. Group name. Check. I understand that you don't want to wear one yet. No one else is yet. It would be nearly impossible for one person to wear a hospital gown and get others to do it, but if you get a handful of leaders. then you can start growing. I'm certain that there were not 60 students who instantly thought waving larger than life celebrity faces around during a basketball game was a good idea. I'm also certain that there wasn't more than 5 people who locked their arms at UWM games and rocked back and forth at first. You think there were more than 10 people who started jumping up and down all game at Duke when that started? Things that seem goofy or dumb at first grow quick and end up being traditions. (As a side note, I think the Hannibal Lechter masks would add a lot to the look and you could personalize these with player numbers, panther teeth, and black and gold colors. I also suggest goofy wigs like mullets and afros too so some of the notable Krazy cellmates can have some unique attributes.) Also your first post is a little confusing fan, why wouldn't it work. Is it the whole it looks like no one is there? 1. (While this can also be a positive thing), everyone has a black shirt. A student section of 75% black shirts is just a bunch of students wearing black shirts. Its not unique. 2. This has been discussed before and is the reasoning for the Athletic Dept's use of a "Gold Rush." Black just isn't that eye catching or "camerarific." The Pitt Penguins used white and it looked great. Black has been tried. It just doesn't work camera/unique-wise. I think you'll find quite a few people who would agree with this. 3. If you don't want to force everyone to plan ahead and bring a black shirt (college kids), you have to hand these puppies out. Shirts can be expensive. They can also be free with a sponsor, but I'm gonna venture to guess that sponsors are gonna be harder to come by. With all that being said I don't even know if I like the black t-shirt idea really I was just throwing it out there. I am almost positive the idea of a blackout will increase the casual fan attendance. It depends on how its marketed and whether they hand out a shirt. Free shirts always mean more attendance than what it would be without. Having one game be a "special" game is also a sure way to increase attendance for that game. So I do agree with you on this. Having black shirts in our student section every game doesn't seem like a way to increase attendance overall. What happens when we play a team that has black as a predominant color? Anyway, how do you feel about the the vertical stripe shirt that's actually my favorite at the moment. Always thought a crosshatch or vertical stripe would be nice. Unique enough, but (bc you used this as a critique of the gown) I don't see how the stripe is anymore connected to our team/school/nickname/group than a gown. Looks a little too geeky for my tastes, but I think the biggest issue is again cost which comes after the initial issue of where the f*ck are you gonna find these? I've looked for these before and had no success. I think blackpanther posted the same.

Yeah, I actually had the vertical stripes idea last fall during the soccer season; our soccer teams have 4-5 uniforms each, and both have the vertical stripes. So does Pounce. Add in the fact that no one in the country does vertical stripes for a student section, and this could be our checkerboard (that Tennessee does).
Now, as fan said, each of us has tried to find them but they're impossible to find. I think we'd have to take gold shirts and print the black bars on ourselves. If we're casting off the vertical stripes idea (which we shouldn't), I have another idea:
Dress to Impress. This is done at Ole Miss, but only for football and that's for tailgating in the Grove. It's an idea, surely not done with college bball yet. Then I can bust out my UWM sweater vest...wait, I do already.

Dress to Impress....Like dress up for games. Well Jimmy ask any kid that goes to Football games down south.
Vandy, Alabama alot of people down south do the whole Dress Up for games.
For basketball...I haven't seen it...so it's a start

Again not unique.
Are you gonna wear something different each game or have several "dressy" outfits? Might be very expensive for some.
Also, you can't give one to everyone as they enter. Everyone would have to come prepared.

Not only might it be expensive, its hot in a suit. Sweaty means gross and chicks don't like that. Eww guys. Eww.
Like don said, you both point out that others do this (I know my HS did it one year in our State run).
I'm not sure if you guys are advocating for the whole homecoming week dress up in a different theme for each game idea? Don't know if I'm a big fan due to costs and how you have to get everyone doing it each week to be effective. If you stay with one outfit, ppl know what to wear.
