So myself and 5 other Klotsche Krazies hopped in my Jeep at 7:45 Sat morning (fresh off me getting home from work 15 min's earlier) and drove to Butler. (Thank you so much for the tix coach!!!) We arrived at Hinkle exactly 3 1/2 hours after leaving Milwaukee County, doing only 8mph over the speed limit for basically the entire trip (it's 70mph in Indiana). We then drove a few minutes down the road to a nice little place on Illinois St for some lunch. I wish I could remember what it was called, but "Illinois" was in the name. Got back to Hinkle, parked for free and walked 3 blocks, arriving at our seats 10 min's before tip.
After what happened there (which I do not want to talk about at this time) we left Indy at 3:30 CT, stopped for gas, and drove the 2 1/2 hours up to Valpo for THEIR game against Green Bay. It was mostly an unplanned, spur of the moment thing too... but after talking about just how feasible it would be, we all agreed it would kick butt. Boy were we right.
After a quick stop at the local BW3's, we arrived at the ARC 10 min's before tip, paid our $9 each, and JOINED THEIR STUDENT SECTION!
Here's the thread of our "escapades" on the Valpo board... valpofans.proboards28.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=generaltalk&thread=2546
As BlackPanther said to me towards the end of the game, we have now graduated Valpo from the Mid-Con to the Horizon League.
Despite Green Bay looking outstanding, Valpo made a game of it, keeping it close after every ridiculous GB spurt and made shot. I can't count on one hand how many times a GB player threw up a prayer-looking heave towards the bucket at the end of the shot clock and hit nothing but net. Despite all that, it was still close at the end and the VuCru never seemed to get discouraged. They seemed to take a liking to what we "brought to the table", and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, despite having to see the wrong WI team win!
My only regret of the whole trip was not getting any pictures of BlackPanther giving Valpo's mascot a piggy-back ride in front of the VuCru.
And yes, I had to take a LOOONG shower after yelling "Lets Go Valpo!" god knows how many times...
